  1. BBleeeed!!
  2. Remember that nut you could not get loose - put a pipe on the spanner and strip the moer
  3. It's really simple it works the same as levers. 1st lever is from road contact point to centre 2nd lever is from pad contact point on rotor to centre When braking there is opposing forces on levers Short lever applies force to long lever On 29er long lever is longer in relation to short lever than on a 26er. Increase length on short lever (180 or 203 rotor) to restore original ratio of 26er
  4. Do the Avids have a squeel on the hour?
  5. NO! But it does need maintenance and plenty of it at the moment so to all those who say "I will come and join you on a Saturday morning" while on the trail riding while we are building .. this is your chance! Saturday morning at 9am at the entrance gate - you - some gloves - something to drink - and a buddy(on your own is also fine) We have the tools - you have the power. You need to do it. Usually good time had by all. It's a free work-out.
  6. I don't have 1000 posts yet but I do want post 150 on this fred -- so offer no opinion
  7. I have gotten great info here but it's one tool in the box - a very good tool. It's like using a good pair of pliers to undo a nut - use correctly and wisely. I think it helps when you get stuck to know you have somewhere to turn to. Ps. The Q20 on disk pads was tongue in the cheek by poster (not me) Then there is the SMALL matter of FACT and OPINION.
  8. I speak under correction but it is usually better just to replace free hub. If it is pitted there is not much you can do and you would replace the ball bearings as they would also be worn. It must have taken some time to do the service tooooo many little ball bearings.
  9. I am going to replace the bearings of my rear susp. on my 2011 Trance X2. Going to replace them all. Do I get the cheaper bearings or is it better to pay a bit more for maybe a better product and will it last longer. Remember these are suspension bearings not wheel bearings. Is there a brand that is really good and worth while. And which is the supplier to go to in the greater Cape Town area. My son replaced his BB bearings (Shimano) with off the shelf bearings from bearing shop. Had to make small mod. What I noticed is that there is enough space between each ball bearing (spacer) for another ball bearing. Would a "full house" bearing with no space between each ball bearing be better or an overkill. I intend doing the BB as well. I use generic bearings on my RC helicopters.
  10. My legs do not need resistance training - they do it automatically!
  11. Normally I would say it is safe - but I hesitate. It is safe after sunrise - I think.
  12. A bargain is a bargain when you feel it is a bargain - so I would say GO for it. That bike is a beauty. I have done 24 Argus rides all but one on the same bike - a 30 year old Colnago (steel frame) - my time +- 3h15
  13. ***NB**** Is it the right size for you I would disagree about age of bike -- makes a huge difference to the price of the bike. Fashion dictates unfortunately I would not pay more than R6 000 although it is an amazing bike and in pristene condition
  14. It accelerates till it reaches the top of the wheel where it will be doing 2x the speed you are doing on the bike then it starts to decelerate. Imagine a small dot on the outer circumference of your tyre and follow its path as you ride
  15. Cpt - the part of your wheel/tyre that is in contact with the ground is not moving so it cannot have velocity nor momentum.
  16. Touche So why did they not do it like that - so I still wonder.
  17. I would like the input of an engineer here. In this experiment the wheels spin around an almost centre point so really spinning The thing about a wheel that is in contact with the ground is that the tyre is stationary when on the ground but moving at 2X the cycle speed when at the top of the wheel - rolling. It has 0 momentum at the bottom and then momentum increases to a max in 1/2 a circumference. In experiment momentum is almost constant. How would the forces differ.
  18. Is there some fellow hubber in the area that is prepared to have a look at it if the bike is brought to him?? By voorbaat DanKie!!
  19. Only on one ear!
  20. I should have posted this much sooner but here goes. HOUT BAY main road along graveyard. Last Saturday and Sunday morning no specific time there were a number of attempts to attack single cyclists. Two to three guys would hide behind the gum trees and then surprise cyclists - try and knock them off. They were armed with knives. With the aid of neighbourhood watch will see if we can do something about it. Tempted to see if I can set a trap but need help of some local cyclists.
  21. No No NO!! Not the same Handlebars - gear shift -- seat just a no go Horrible!!
  22. You have right of reply! What IS the other side of the story. As is I can't really see another side - speeding and overtaking on solid white line not on. Did you not speed and did you not pass on solid white?
  23. NEVER!! Creepy stuff that. Avid Avid fan.
  24. No not a bad idea - just a dumb idea! Not going to happen.
  25. One should leave enough space on your right for a faster rider to pass on the right - just a courtesy thing.
