  1. Garbaruk as good if not better than eagle and their cages work up to 52 at the back - also make a great 10/50 11 speed cassette
  2. Your googling game is weak my young apprentice https://ratiotechnology.com/product/12-speed-upgrade-kit/
  3. I was looking for this road but couldn’t find it at the time
  4. Yup rookie error - taking care of our kids cost more than bikes Hopefully he remembers your sacrifice and gets you a nice bike attached to a decent sports car one day
  5. I’m going back to ride riversdale swellendam but without baggage and maybe a buddy - it’s an epic ride
  6. if I could offer my advice....sell everything you own and get one
  7. what's the logistical problem ? The only problem is budget and time, everything else is easy If you live in JHB fly to George and out of Cape Town (plenty people will collect and drop off) Plenty places to stay along the way at very reasonable rates if you are soft like me and don't tent On a budget? Ride to the start with a tent, ride home
  8. Great option above and not going to Prince Albert and missing the Swartberg pass would be a shame you could still go knysna to george - oudtshoorn - PA - calitzdorp - that's a mix of my route below but incorporates PA But if you do decide to go the more direct route I can provide you with the GPX route that is slightly different to Cape Cross something like this ....... Knysna to Wilderness - a nice 75km along the 7 passes Wilderness to Volmoed (Oudtshoorn) 100km over Montegu pass and a good day out Volmoed to Van Wyksdorp over the rooiberg pass, a pretty hard 80km loaded up Rooiberg lodge/van vyksdorp to Riversdale a fast fun 75km over the beautiful Garcia pass Riversdale to Swellendam, a very pretty 100km and the hills will make you lose your sense of humour. It's a tough one and I quit at the end of this but in April conditions would be less brutal Swellendam to greyton 110km greyton to stellenbosh 106
  9. because I live in gravel heaven and I love drop bars
  10. I've had my 73 year old mate come and visit for 2 nights - 50 hilly kms yesterday and a quick 20km lap around the Garden Route dam this morning His ebike has made riding together possible - I'll admit that getting to the top of a 7 minute hill 3 minutes behind him puffing sweating is a little annoying but I can live with it to ride with a mate. More significantly, the bike pictured has done 5km since the build around August which is just terrible - my love affair with my gravel bike has meant I don't look at the N+1 models. But jeez this machine is so capable and comfortable that I'm blown away - I really must try ride it more
  11. Genius....if only I could pull of decent facial hair now. I could drink coffee and stroke my beard whilst pondering the meaning of it all
  12. I have this set up too and I feel safer using it but the front beam used as a light doesn’t last long Which is fine for me because I don’t ride in the dark because I’m too lazy to get up that early
  13. A cheap small one (even from builders) is a useful tool - I use mine for cleaning my workshop, tools, bike, nail gun and dusting myself off - they last years and I find it super useful
  14. love these pics
  15. I just love the fact that I've finally found a use for the surf clothes I refuse to wear as a surfer I'm looking forward to taking up the next fad in my toight Assos kit and bright pink bicycling shirts
  16. Not sure the light and conditions could have been better this morning Seven Passes road
  17. I will replace the double posted text with please can we upload pics from our phones more easily
  18. I’m so fast I need the bags as parachutes to slow down Or maybe I’m so slow aero is the name of a nice choccie that fits in my bag
  19. use one of the pesky zero degree ones
  20. it's what the cool kids do and you'll be the talk of Bootleggers - as you can see ride with mine empty just to look the business
  21. I haven’t ridden my roadbike since the CTCT and recently went to the shop on it out of guilt - 2km just to get rid of the guilt. I was thinking this thing needs flared bars
  22. Was there nothing with more of a negative rise - I’m worried you’ll be too upright
  23. Main reason for me is to look cool But multiple hand positions make it’s super comfortable and the flares mean your wrists are straight so no numb fingers Did I mention it looks cool and for me that’s important because I can’t grow a proper beard
