  1. This ride is about as safe as it gets anywhere - not sure about Greyton to Stellies but the rest is super safe - that said it’s nice to have company for some of the tough days
  2. I’ve met Rae and he just looks like a guy who can ride and clearly judging by his first leg he can I’ve done most of this ride and as an average rider, this is probably best done over 7 days minimum - some of the days are so tough. Avoid the hot months
  3. I semi tried to warn you but I didn’t want to rain on your parade - the beauty on a nice day makes up for the slog
  4. Chris the bike handled great but in my mind the 27.5 were slower - they weren’t and some of my local loops were faster on that bike than anything in the 3 years since - in fact I did a road race on it with gravel tires and was about 10 mins of my best over 109km But somehow I just didn’t love the bike so I switched to this Open with a 36 chainring and I never had any spinning out issues - I used Panaracer 43s not the ones pictured
  5. It’s call Ou wa pas crossing the Outeniqua mountains from my side (Hoekwil) and then up and over to Luvein which is on the R62 between George and Uniondale - 15km section for just under 1000m, 2 of which took an hour walking - great views
  6. this is a great one - I had this previously - think mine may have been the 40c but it was super fast on tar
  7. The bike in picture isn't mine but I think Monark and I ride the same panaracer 50s. We were both on 43s. I can feel the difference on the tar but on gravel I've gained comfort and not lost speed The panaracer 43's are the sweet spot between pace and comfort in my opinion. Here are my beefy 50s
  8. ah but you can do the short ride early on one of your many fine roadies and then catch the later start on the Nova
  9. Have just entered and you’ve reminded me to get a nice flannel shirt - sadly a month is not enough time for me to grow a beard
  10. This is the restrap canister bag on fellow hubber Monark’s bike
  11. https://www.7weekspoortmtb.co.za/ Google is your friend Chris - I want to do this one for sure
  12. All I’m seeing is you finished 38 minutes quicker
  13. Here’s the Colnago cage on my C40 - I think it looks a bit modern
  14. I had a a really tough day out - 100km and 2000m of climbing mostly gravel apart from an old ox wagon trail which took me an hour to walk as it wasn’t rideable - my feet and heels are still sore - 100km took 7 hours with an added bonus of a stiff headwind in parts - this loop from home saw temperatures vary between 27 and 9 - I got home sunburnt and drenched I’m sure I will look back fondly but I’m not doing that loop again! EDIT - the prints I spotted near the top of the mountain miles from civilization....domestic dog, ..disappointing
  15. very tough to be Strand hardware on price I drive to PE far too often to visit them
  16. as mentioned, nice wine room, too many full racks for my taste. Exceptional looking bike; but for me, your crowning achievement, building at your front door, respect
  17. It's a bold claim but I may well have been a pioneer of this look (excluding ze Germans) Birkenstocks and sox in Durban circa '95 what a tool, like I said, some of what went down in the 90's is beyond belief
  18. and Lance time trialed on a Trek labeled litespeed in his first win
  19. threatened to for years but it would sound like a work of fiction - plus in the modern era, some of what was borderline acceptable in the 90s would not come off too well these days
  20. an extremely poor rendition of Enter Sandman I'm told....very foggy recollection
  21. so close you wouldn't believe
