  1. Is that a KCNC post? May not be, it flares up at the top like an EC90
  2. No agent for Speen in SA as of yet. You'll have to order directly from Speen, www.speen.de. Head over to their webshop and order the appropriate adaptor.
  3. The crankset will be available in both a BB30 and traditional external bearing interface. That said the price is horrendous, a direct US to ZAR transalation puts the new units into the 3.5 to 3.8 K price bracket. If variables such as the SA MTB market and the general national mark up on bicycle parts are added to the equation it can then be deduced that the cranksets will fall into a price bracket similar to the current M970 XTR units. For less money you can put together a much lighter double ring unit. In essence you are really just paying for the Sram name. That all said, I reckon I am going to put down an order for a SID XX WC and a XX RD. I have 10 spd gripshifters and I'll knock the pins out of a few spare Ti cassettes I have and put together a sub 200 gram unit. I also know for a fact that there are allready plans and prototypes from various botique manufacturers to get 10 spd cassettes out before the years end. The rest of the groupset is nothing to write home about. Formula do lighter brakes, Sram do top end road derailleurs that, with a Speen adaptor, will work perfectly on an MTB.
  4. Are you looking for general reviews?
  5. Then for the tech heads there's this link. http://www.geocities.com/spokeanwheel/measure.htm
  6. Not sure if there are any folks wondering what we are talking about out there, but, if there are have a look at the following link it breaks down the concepts quite nicely and there are a few diagrams for those who need em. http://www.ozbizz.com/melton/kensbikes/slc.htm
  7. Lefty is lighter, in theory stiffer and is one of the smoothest forks on the market. Bad news is that it uses a 1.5"steerer so if you want to run it on something other than a dale you have to knock out the steerer tube, stick a shim in as well as a traditional 1 1/8" steerer. Also they are very pricey and so are the replacement bits. If you have the cash then go for the dale with the lefty. Buying a Cannondale with a standard fork is like buying a Ferrari F430 only to find that there is a 1.8 litre straight 4 engine under the hood.
  8. Fair point. In all honesty I don't have the hubs yet, they are somewhere between points A and B where I am point B. I wanted to order the spokes so they arrived with the hubs, less lag time etc. I'll get the measurements ASAP and post them.
  9. Hi Guys, I am building up some new hoops, ZTR Olympics/ A2Z hubs/ DT Revolutions. I have the ERD for the rims but need to know the hub dimensions, does anyone have the pitch circle diameter and the flange distances for the A2Z superlight hubs? If not does any one know where I can get them off the web, I can't find the figures any where. ThanksRacer X2009-05-26 06:29:23
  10. Changing the Tyres to Evolution beads, chucking on a KCNC finishing kit and using KCNC drivetrain components will knock the weight down to 9 kgs.
  11. Formula do about the lightest housing available, the Hope stuff comes close but does not quite make the mark. Scrub do an in house fluid that is supposedly supposed to expand up to 3 times less than conventional dot brake fluid. This is also supposed to some how make it the lightest on the market.
  12. The lightest setup you can go is with the R1 Carbon brake, (available only in Europe at the moment), Scrub rotors, Formula Ti pads (Again still only available in Europe)and a Fiberlyte carbon bolt kit. It'll cost more than your bike but it'll weigh allmost nothing.
  13. and long socks
  14. Depends if you want cold hands or not;-) Seriously though just remember that if you clothe up too much you'll end up having to stop and take alot of it off. If its really cold, sub freezing, I'll darn fleecy arm warmers, a chest warmer/ bib and a wind jamer.
  15. Apparently not http://www.capestorm.co.za/products/detail/39?cat=10&activity=30
  16. Nope no new stanchions. Just lug the fork down to you LBS and ask them to increase the travel by 20 mm up to 100.
  17. Yeah a cape storm green jacket thingie and an extra vest under your riding top. It never gets that cold in SA. That said everyone is different. If you really feel the cold then I reckon you should look at first ascents line up. Well priced and fairly snug.
  18. Cost varies from LBS to LBS, probably 200 odd bucks.
  19. The short answer is yes. Rockshox work off a system of travel spacers. You re arrange the spacers inside your fork depending on how much travel you want. Its not that hard a job to do but if you don't feel you're up to it then let you'r LBS take care of it for you.
  20. Ah okay my bad. No clue how he did it, how ever it does prove that he values the weight of his bike more than his family jewels.
  21. To be honest you could knock a fair bit more weight off. That said it looks fugly and that saddle is guaranteed to castrate the owner on the first big drop.
  22. Check out the Merida Juliet Series or the GT Ws. Both are of an entry level but have got huge upgrade potential.
  23. There is very little wrong with either the Smarty or the Candy. Both work off the exact same principle as the Eggbeater except they are caged in. Same deal with the Shimano M520/40 and the PDM 647's. The Smarty is a entry level pedal and is thus not quite up to the same level as the Candy.
  24. I'd go for the Shimanos. Classic system thats almost indestructible .That said I also use Eggbeaters.
