  1. I haven't done TB, but have done a half 36One (so 180km). The longest training ride I did was 60km before the vent, in Somerset West - so more climbing per km than the event. I finished relatively comfortably. but I did not race it by any means. I had been riding 4 to 5 times a week consistently for a couple of years leading up to that though so I had a decent base. If I were to do something similar, and I am toying with the idea of a TB in 2022 (if post knee op surgery rehab allows), I would probably want to do a few 100 to 150km training rides with 3000m climbing in the 2-3 months before the event. I wouldn't bother doing longer rides than that. But again, I would just want to comfortably complete it, not race it.
  2. You are between Medium and Large. Impossible to say which you should go for. I am also 178cm, and I won't touch a medium with a ten foot pole, I ride a large. It depends on your proportions. I have short legs, long torso, generally speaking sizing up works for people of my proportions, if you have long legs and short torso you are going to probably be better off on Medium. Then you have to consider the brands, some mediums = some larges. Get on the bike and feel.... Easier to make a large a little smaller than a medium a bit bigger (IMO longer stems than intended for bikes ruin them). At that price the brand of fork is not going to matter, just make sure it's air. Lower price, Shimano groupsets tends to work better than SRAM (I am a SRAM fan, just nothing below GX). Stick with 29" wheels - in general tyre choice and replacements are just more freely available right now. Me 2c... expand your search to larges and go ride a few bikes. I rode mediums for years because I was told it's my size, I only realized how uncomfortable I was when I first got on a large bike.
  3. Myne is ook lank (3cm). Come on gents… I’m sure we all use our 180mm enduro sleds and SUVs to their full capacity all the time.
  4. Some good news for you. We (THBC Distribution) are the new importers for SA. Our first stock is being delivered tomorrow evening, so from next week it will be freely available in SA again
  5. Even the XCO pros are riding 34 and 35mm forks now. A 32mm fork is too skinny for anyone that is not on a diet of cabbage leaves and lentils. My prediction is that there will be no such thing as a 32mm stanchion on any decent spec mtb within the next 5 years.
  6. Daisy Way Coaching are brilliant. They don't do only Jonkers, but I am sure they would be happy to help you out there.
  7. No, but you can buy it here: Normal: https://thehangerbikeco.co.za/product/burgtec-bartender-pro-greg-minaar-grip/ Super soft compound: https://thehangerbikeco.co.za/product/burgtec-bartender-pro-greg-minaar-grip-super-soft/ Both are really good. I prefer the super soft compound personally. Best grip I've used.
  8. Had the wrong info when I replied to your message. Wish there was a way to delete a post rather than just editing.
  9. Same two frames being re-listed over and over. IMO they want too much for it.
  10. I wouldn't recommend the Funn pedals. I used to be the South African distributor for Funn, and they did make some awesome products and pedals. I just warrantied ALOT of those pedals with bent axles.... And seeing as there is no longer an SA distributor, that is going to be an expensive exercise if it happens to you.
  11. The issue was a lack of grease on one of the shock bolts and the shock bolt being under torqued from the factory with one of the runs of frames. All that has to happen is that the shop should remove that bolt, grease the shaft, put some loctite on the thread, and torque to spec. Only once… not every ride. It’s a 5min job for a shop.
  12. Enter. Hoogekraal is a great place for a first time enduro. The trails are not crazy, so you won’t die. At the start of a stage just tell the guy behind you to give you a good gap, and if you do hear someone coming up behind you just let them pass when it is safe. You’ll find the vibe at enduros is very chilled… Enjoy it.
  13. Both the TacX Neo and ThinkRider (Insert model name here) don't need power to run. They work like the Concept2 ergs - just start pedaling and it powers up. I have been using a borrowed TacX Neo the last while to help with some rehab while I am not allowed on a bike outside, very convenient to be able to use the indoor trainer when the power is out. Almost a must have for me if I am buying an indoor trainer again.
  14. To be fair, this is a new bike. Don't know if you are being sarcastic, but IMO this is a huge bargain.
  15. Very nice paint! Who did that for you?
  16. Get yourself a set of 29" wheels. Had the same bike, the 3.0 tyres it comes with stock are poo - only control casing on narrow rims which means you don't get the advantage of a plus bike anyway coz you have to run high pressures. Getting a set of 29" wheels with 2.5" rubber was the best thing I ever did for that bike.
  17. Haha hers, not mine. I've given up on trying to convince her cycling is fun.
  18. Either pregnant or studying for exams for the last 3 years. She has not touched a bike in a while....
  19. Haha yeah ticks are part of it. I have picked off more than 20 in a single ride when trails are a bit overgrown in Spring. Between the months of Sept and Nov I just accept it as part of a ride, and if I don't find a few to pick off I just look harder, because they are somewhere. Strange enough, of the 100+ I have taken off my legs and arms over the last couple of years I have not been bitten a single time. Anyway, back on topic, pity about the state of the trails. Meerendal is a lekker venue for me when I want to take my wife cycling.
  20. Season 2 of who can take the best selfie. Truly gripping stuff.
  21. I've got a buddy who has currently got a Marino in production... really keen to see how it turns out! Won't end up on this thread though as it's got some squish in the back.
