  1. Awesome! Definitely insentive to go buy some mew tyres or clothing there. Thanks Spez Stellenbosch!
  2. A little expensive. I sold a Scott Scale with full XT and a Fox 32 on it for that amount 2 months ago. And that bike was really in mint condition.
  3. Where do you order from? And for interest sake, what does a cassette set you back once cleared and delivered?
  4. Do you take the tyre off and clean out every month? I also top up once a month, but only clean out every 3 months.
  5. I do it roughly every 3 months.
  6. Edit. Not worth it.
  7. Yes, tried both - not worth it. Very low km, sunrace more so than the premium KMC chains. But both less than GX chains.
  8. Good to know, I thought they were about the same. But my last XO1 lasted just over 2500km compared to the XX1 that lasted 3000km and is still going (on a bike I sold) - less than 0.25 wear when I sold it. Will replace the XO1 with XX1 when the time comes.
  9. Try Kean Bikes. They are on instagram as KeanBikes and I know he does carbon forks of all sizes for around 3k...
  10. Specialized Eliminator... PhilipV has a disector up front on his new bike. Sure he can give feedback soon!
  11. It was my go to tyre combo on my hardtail for a long time - I really like the ardent up front, ardent race out back... Just not an AM combo in my mind. Had too many close calls with that combo when I rode it where it was not mean to be ridden. Maybe that was just my lack of skill
  12. Have you contacted NSquared Distribution? They are the importers and have an online store... https://nsquared.co.za/collections/mtb-tires I am sure they can arrange to bring in some with a shipment...
  13. Pricing in Vittoria tyres are very attractive as well. They get reasonably good reviews.
  14. I pulled the trigger on a set of Versus all mountain tyres in the trail casing, 29x2.4" flavour. I went for them in the Yellow paint splatter edition - definitely not for everyone, but I though it was something different, and I like something different. Very very nice tyres, the grip like DHR2s,no surprise there since the tread pattern is nearly identical. The compound is a bit harder though, so they roll faster and should last a bit longer. I am very happy with them. What I am not so happy about is the paint splatter effect. After just 2 weeks about 50% of it is gone. I was under the impression the actual rubber of the tyre was dyed, and that those dyed pieces were mixed into the tyre. Although some if it is, it seems there are lots of pieces of the dyed rubber that is just on the surface of the tyre, so they come off quickly. I wouldn't care if it all came off, but at the end of the day I predict 80% of it will come off, and then the tyre is just going to look dirty. Anyway, long story short, it's a lekker tyre, it strikes a good balance between grip and rolling resistance, it seats easily, and has nice volume, what seems to be a sturdy casing. The jury is still out on longevity. Would I order again? Probably not. Seeing as they are essentially DHR2s at a higher cost due to having to import them from the US. The higher cost would have been justified for the uniqueness factor of the paint splatter - but that comes off.
  15. Good XC and marathon combo, my favourite in fact. Definitely not an AM combo at all...
  16. I use carbon paste, and then at the exact height on the seat post wrap a couple of layers of insulation tape around the seat post. If correctly torqued, and carbon paste applied, the insulation tape provides just the right amount of friction for the seat post to stop slipping. Also helps to know exactly to which height to re-insert the seat post after working on the bike.
  17. Righty tighty until it strips, then a 1/4 turn lefty?
  18. Coffee on the keyboard moment!
  19. Awesome, thanks Droo! I will do. The bike is due for a suspension service in the next 2 or so months anyway, so will drop by then.
  20. If you need that type of lube, you're not doing it right
  21. Also not a fan of squirt. I am a big fan of Pedros Ice Wax (it's lube, not a wax) - I findmy drivetrain stays quiet for much longer and doesn't get as dirty as with Squirt or Smoove. BikeMob used to bring it in, stopped a while back and had a clearance sale where I picked up 5 bottles at R30 each. I am down to my last bottle now, don't know where I am gonna find it when it runs out...
  22. My labby would disagree - best thing that could possible happen around her.
  23. I should read instructions in future.
  24. Ja Coenie, jy is slim. Maak jou fiets al minder geraas? Ek luister al weeke lank na daai lawaai!
  25. I will give that a go. Interestingly a friend of mine says he uses that tool with the bike at it's sag point and gets better results - your point supports that.
