  1. Thanks for the informative comments. Yes, I have been for xrays, was examined by an orthapaedic surgeon and an attorney has already put the wheels in motion for an MVA claim. Just one thing, every body rips off Arnie with his "please wear your helmut" comment every Tues night. After this accident, I've realised that he can't say it enough times. My helmut is in half (that could've been my head), but something I've learned is that all Bell helmuts come with an accident replacement warranty. If the helmut is damaged, you can return it to a shop and get a new one at only 30% of the selling price. That is good service.
  2. Thanks alot, I feel alot better. From what you guys have said, it seems as if I will be paid out. Now.......if I can just get this pelvis to heal, I can start riding again.
  3. Last week a guy in a bakkie tail ended me whilst I was training. He admitted liability and as he was driving a work vehicle, his employer has offered to put any claims through on his insurance. My bike was structurally unharmed, except for a destroyed STi, a few minor scratches and 3 dents on the chain stay (an aluminium frame). My lbs has told me that, their experience has shown that insurance companies will not replace the scratched parts or a dented frame as the bike is still structurally sound. My opinion is that, I went for a ride on Thursday with a completely unscratched and undented bike and the insurance company must pay for those parts to be replaced so that my bike is once again completely unscratched and undented. I'm not asking for anything more than what I had before. I look after my stuff really well and I'm sure that any dents on the frame will severely compromise any resale value. The total cost of replacing the frame and scratched parts amounts to R12000. The assessor will undoubtedly want to view the bike. Has anybody on the forum had any similar experiences and has their insurance paid/not paid for any "cosmetic" damage?
  4. I have a RC6000 frame (the white 2005 version)which I want to build up for sale. I have a choice of building it up with Campag Xenon or Veloce (10sp) and Khamsyn wheels. In order to make my money back, I will have to sell the bike at these prices: Xenon R3 500.00 Veloce R4 500.00 The groupsets and wheels will be brand new and the frame, although 3 years old, is in excellent condition. Will I be able to sell at these prices and which would sell better, the cheaper Xenon or better Veloce?
  5. Ja........... Just out of interest, who do you have lined up for this team? Are there any local (PE) riders that you have earmarked for the team?
  6. OcTall...........you are from PE aren't you? Why not approach SA's largest bike distributor? A PE company sponsoring a PE team.

Check out www.epcycling.co.za There is a list of all affiliated clubs in the province. I don't remember seeing one in that area. There is one or two clubs in East London which is about 45mins drive from King Williams Town. There are also a few national clubs such as Cyclelab and Club100 that you can join, but I doubt that you will get any support in those areas you are moving to. Welcome to SA anyway. Much better cycling than UK.
  10. Huh! Why would they be out of the tour?
  11. I saw the RC6000 and RC3000 on the net today. Not as nice as the RC7000 and RC Team. Just one question, are the RC3000 and RC6000 carbon? Looking at the curves by the head set and bottom tube, they look carbon. In fact the frames look very similar to the Schwinn Peleton frames.
  12. Finally..........a Raleigh that really looks nice. To date, all of their bikes (with the exception of the White 2005 RC6000) have been ugly. The yellow Team looks awesome
  13. Go see Rob Rudman at Cyclopro (just off William Moffat next to Profiles Gym). He gives the best advice and service in PE. Or if you are prepared to go second hand, contact Shenley at Second Slip in Fernglen. He has a lot of good quality second hand stuff.
  14. Anybody seen the new Madone? It is absolutely awesome. I also saw tonight that Cyclelab has sponsored one as a prize in a TDF competition. http://www2.trekbikes.com/madone/
  15. So Robbie is the hero!!! 2nd place in one of the TDF stages. There aren't many cyclists in the world that can make that claim. Does anybody remember that interview with Ride Magazine a few years ago, where he made his name (and reputation) mud? Judging by the responses in the following issue, he had lost quite a bit of his fan base.
  16. I've got the CR350's. I assume the build quality etc would be similar to that of the CR420's. My freehub went whilst climbing a steep hill. My local bike shop couldn't fix them and had to send them to Cape Town. Cost me R612.00. Shortly after, the free hub locked (wouldn't free wheel), luckily my LBS could fix this one. Another LBS in town told me that these wheels often break. As I said, mine are the 350's, so maybe the 420's don't have the same problems/reputation.
  17. Riding MTB is not much safer. It's not the cars to worry about, but the people in the bush who are just waiting to steal your bike so they can swop it for a litre of wine. They won't hesitate stab you for your bike.
  18. There are 3 really sexy women on SA's elite list. We already have one of them here. Now if we could just convince the other two, viz Ronel Van Wyk and Yolande Speedy to send in their photos too.
  19. Talking about bells. Do you know that it is a requirement of the law that bicycles are fitted with bells? Just like it is compulsory to wear a helmut and to have a specified number and size of reflectors. Probably 90-95% of us are therefore breaking the law. I have yet to see a cyclist over the age of 10 with a bell on his bike
  20. As cyclists, we like to change our bikes every few years. Compare the resale value of an aluminium framed bike to that of a carbon framed bike. Everybody wants carbon now days.
  21. There was quite a debate on this race on the Hub on Monday. From what I read, the main race (for the Elites) had been stopped. I watched the event on Supercycling, there was no mention of any problems and there was even a winner declared (an MTN Microsoft rider). Did I miss something somewhere?
  22. On my way to work I drive past a squatter camp. You'll be surprised at some of the bikes these guys are riding. There are plenty of them that are brush painted (obviously so they aren't recoginized), but you can tell the quality by looking at the shocks.
  23. Free shipping on everything except complete bikes. I have played arround with a few things and the frames were also free.
