  1. Under correction, but I spoke to Gent a few months who said he is on the "new" planning committee for the DBX, and that they made great strides in repairing the relations with the landowners in order for the DBX to return to most of its old route, and some new and exciting sections added. Not boring anymore, he said.
  2. HR is a very specific thing. I'm 60, average well into the 160 bpm on a fairly hard ride of 3hrs+, max out well into the 180's, and can still "maintain" a short convo at that bpm. My resting HR is around 47, and I'm not in the fittest of conditions at present. Cycling next to buddies of around the same age, keeping parallel to each other (in other words about the same effort) my HR is normally 10-15bpm higher than theirs. So there is nothing to worry about, unless she starts to feel dizzy on the bike at that elevated HR, then there is reason for worry. I'll suggest a proper load tested HR session at a suitably qualified DR or lab to make sure everything is a ok with her.
  3. Also heard reports from a Dr working at one of the Hospitals where the riders were transported to, NO DEATHS, but three riders in ICU with failing organs. He is on one of my cycling groups.
  4. It's got a long drag from the time you cross the tar road from Hoogies, then you have a virtual wall to crest when crossing the service road (it's a working wine farm) before this section kicks up immediately and brutally. That little wall breaks your momentum completely. Then that little section, short it may be, is full of loose pebbles/rocks with the odd erosion ditch. No way to get a proper run in, and zig zagging does not help much, but to break the little momentum you had, and then you start to lose traction on the loose soil. So, I do not begrudge anyone walking/pushing that section. Walking down Dorstberg singletrack, now that's another story altogether.
  5. You're not, it was updated earlier this afternoon. I noticed it per chance.
  6. Click on"Advanced" "All Waves" and then on your starting group
  7. @Denis Dell. With the run up you had to this event, I take my hat off to you for even attempting it, never mind push a buggy. KUDOS TO YOU.
  8. I make my own. Bought a sheet of the "plastic" they use to line the inside of truck wheel wells from Maizy's. Was quite cheap, have made quite a few already and still have enough material left to make a number more. Got a template from the 'net and printed it out. Adapted it a bit to give more mud prevention coverage. Trace it out on the plastic, and cut it with a sharp blade, and then just refine the edges to your liking.
  9. I started in 2D, and already in our loading/holding pen, when some 1D riders tried to get into their group by moving the barricade of our loading pen (1D was at this stage just loading for their scheduled start) when the one female Marshall stormed them, stopping them from loading and shouted "you are late, you missed your start, now you will start later" and pushed them back into our group. Obviously, we all remonstrated with her, showing 1D is just loading for their start. It took quite a few minutes before she conceded and allowed them to load. You should have seen the look of relieve on the 1D riders faces. Strangely, not one of them opposed her, it was us 2D riders who showed her to the errors of her rude ways. Going up Chappies, just before the tunnel, a 4A rider came blasting past us on his E-bike, and a few of us huffing and puffing up the climb, remarked that there is no way he started in the correct start group. At that stage we just saw 3A and 3B riders starting to filter past us, so he was definitely a huge outlier.
  10. Best of luck to everybody riding today. Be safe out there and enjoy it.
  11. No reply from CTCT on both my e-mail to them, and my FB post on the post where they were bragging about 2nd day success of the Expo. Therefore, my actions are as follows: I used the supplied handlebar attachment board and used a black marker to write my race number on it. This will then be attached to my handlebar in the customary fashion. My race number will be on my back, as required I'll chuck my medical aid card in my back pocket, just in case. The "airplane wing" Finish Time chip will be affixed to my seat post, as required. I deem this to be sufficient identification as a valid entrant and participant in the 2025CTCT.
  12. What an utter BOX!!!!
  13. Checking the contents of my Race Pack envelope, it seems like I might miss a few items (if memory serves me right from previous year's envelope contents) There was the Number you attach to your jersey, 2 x cable ties, 4 x safety pins, a blank "number board" (where your race number gets stuck on and then attached to your handlebars), and the plastic sheeve with the "can you see the cyclist" info. THAT IS ALL. Quite sure the printed stickers with your race number you put on the plastic board on your handlebar and your medical info you attach to your race number on your back is missing. Or have things changed? I did not check the race pack when they handed it to me, as it was quite busy with people collecting their race packs, and a person would trust that all the items you need will be included in the race pack.
  14. If Sunday is anything like this morning was, it's going to be brilliant weather. Had a slight tailwind this morning from Suikerbossie back to the CBD, making my pre Expo ride a real pleasure. Strongs to everybody on Sunday, keep the rubber side on the tar.
  15. Where's the "Expo" feedback from the people who's been already? I'm going tomorrow morning after a quick spin to top of Suikerbossie and back.
  16. Cape Cobra was one of my favorite races on the calendar. A nice race with a fair bit of climbing.
  17. I have both the Airtank, and the Extinguisher hack. (cobbled together myself) Airtank does not work, can't even inflate a road bike tire (only pffff and nothing else) Removed the hose and inflator head to add to the extinguisher. Now that thing works like a bomb (lol) Only hassle is to inflate it with the floorpump before being able to use it. But one charge can seat two Mtb tires.
  18. Due to change. We had a few "windless" days in a row now. SE is busy building up steam somewhere.
  19. It's done already. Received my "updated" seeding e-mail a few minutes ago. Check under your Spam.
  20. Before you start spending willy nilly on the bike, take it to a competent person/mechanic to give it a once over, then you service and repair the components that is not FUBAR, and then work out a plan to replace what's needed to get the bike up to scratch. Will save you a lot of effort.
  21. I hear you guys, but some of these resellers are sharks just out for a quick buck. A year or so ago someone advertised a component I was looking for at a really good price. I responded immediately and was informed one of the resellers already jumped on the sale. I then contacted the reseller, asking if he would relinquish the sale to me, only to be told that he will sell it to me at a much higher price. At this stage the seller was not even paid by the reseller yet and the items were still in the seller's possession. I told the reseller I thought it not to be very ethical, as I knew what the sale price of the items were and left it at that.
  22. If one man on his own can do that, just imagine what a task force will be able to accomplish.
  23. I'll add pics later. My road bike is a 2009 vintage Scott Speedster S still with original Ultegra 10spd group set, running an "old man gearing" 52/39 chainring and 11-32 cassette on Mavic Equipe wheels shot with Vittoria tires. Mtb is a 2014 Scott Spark Elite with Shimano 11spd XT group set and brake set. 1 x 34/11-52 gearing, running on Lyne Pulse wheels with Vittoria Barzo 2.25 tires. Gravel Donkey / Hybrid is a vintage unknown (probably mid 2010's) Haibike hardtail frame, put together entirely with 2nd hand parts I had on hand or scrounged from fiends. Sram 10spd Force group set front and rear, Tektra cable brakes, old XT wheelset with 40c Maxxis Rambler tubeless tires.
  24. Did you enter for the Tour de PPA? If you have, your seeding will only be sent out afterwards. "Most race numbers have already been allocated. However, certain entrants will not be receiving their seeding just yet. These include: Recent entrants (after 27 January) and substitutions Some riders who participated in the 99er (expect your seeding next week) Entrants also participating in the Ride for Sight or Tour de PPA who still have a chance to improve their seeding (expect your seeding the week following the event) Elite men, Elite women and U17 boys People with an existing seeding query that have not yet been completed"
  25. E-mail from CTCT.
