  1. Similar to other brands, you can purchase mostly the top of the line frames. You don't pay the 15% duty on frames (still pay the VAT though). Makes them VERY competitively priced even after shipping.
  2. Holy-thread-rival, batman! Is Nomad still open? I cycle Bottelary often and have yet to catch them open this year Edit: I love Red Roof on the corner of Bottelary and the R304. The coffee is excellent and I usually have the "cyclist breakfast"
  3. Where are the pics you lot? Gives me something to look at while I wait in the car for this silly run to start Enjoy the ride!
  4. Thanks for that, wasn't even aware of it! Seems silver Oceans runners are generally not into cycling.... The winning time in 2016 was 7:21:27, 2:52 CTCT and 4:29 Oceans. Excellent in both disciplines for sure, but not super-human. http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/sites/default/files/attachments/pages/TOM%202016%20CT%20Combined_0.pdf

  6. In Joburg there's a "duo" medal for those that complete 947 and 32km RAC Tough One, but these are a week apart. Your times for both events are added together and ranking well is a pretty big deal. Doing the same here would be very cool
  7. Maybe some finishers didn't have chips?
  8. Seen this a few times, the same lady that clings onto the back of the bunch on the flats - where absolute power is more relevant than power to weight - just obliterates everyone up a very steep climb at the finish
  9. Precisely this. I detest it when people provide anecdotal evidence to prove a point, but the stats on out of towners isn't being made available by the PPA. So here's my anecdotal story: On our office floor in Joburg everyone is a weekend warrior and half the guys went down and were disappointed by the cancellation last year. NONE of them rode this year. They can all certainly afford it, but still the quoted reason "It costs a fortune to fly down to CT and stay in a half decent hotel over Argus weekend, I'm not dropping R10k just to run the risk of it being cancelled again." Another associate who has done 8 CTCTs in a row simply decided to wait and see if they actually managed to have the race in 2018. He did his own thing in the Cradle on Sunday. Keep in mind that a lot of Joburgers typically fly their wives and even kids down for the weekend. The risk of spending a lot of money and then seeing CTCT cancelled just outweighed any kind of optimism. I think a major portion of no-showers are those that directly suffered the loss of last year. The damage has been done, but this year's event will go some way to repairing it. It might take years for the risk of cancellation to stop deterring potential participants.
  10. May he have a speedy recovery! The marshals have a thankless and dangerous job!
  11. I think they cleared out the "unofficial" refreshment stands that were offered by sponsors and advertisers in previous years. Always thought it was a bit dodge that the race instructions clearly state that refreshment stations will never hand anything to moving cyclists while the unofficial stations are usually happy to do just that. The CTCT 2018 was absolutely world class and gorgeous as per usual. Nice to have one of the greatest events back to winning ways
  12. Canada only opens at 16h00
  13. From CTCT: All participants who collected their race packs from Expo yesterday can expect to receive an email from us this morning about their number printing. Did anybody receive this email? I assume it relates to the sticker issues
  14. Don't feed the trolls
  15. By then the bunch has dropped me anyway, plenty of room to maneuver around the hole
  16. That is so brilliant, maybe instead of having that FTP vs seeding thread we should check the correlation of shirt size to seeding
  17. Why does this bother you so much? Looking for a cheap entry? I'm sure if you offer some of these guys 50% of face value they'll accept it by now. Any less and the trouble of writing the letter might be too much.
  18. Gravel bike territory at best
  19. I didn't observe this behaviour in B group at that point. They dropped me on the N7 and I had to work my a$$ off with one other chaser to catch them by the time the climb started, so I was well positioned to observe the group. (I probably wasn't strong enough for B, but finished just inside the top half in the end). There certainly was some white line crossing and elbowing when C merged from behind, but that wasn't on the N7. Where I have seen major issues with white line crossing is actually much further back. Raced One Tonner from one of the last groups and was appalled at the way the backmarkers are swerving all over the place. Quite often they basically forced you to overtake them on the left, even when politely asking them to move across. As the field spreads out they are also far less likely to encounter a marshal to correct the bad behaviour. I've seen plenty of guys get warned by marshals, but neve an actual DQ. Whereas at triathlons I've seen plenty of penalties and DQs handed out. Do marshals take race numbers and have guys warned or DQd later? Would this make any difference? They sure worked hard to keep the right side of the bunch safe at 99er, I have no criticism for the actual marshalling done by both stationary and motorbike officials. I just wonder if some punitive measures wouldn't perhaps help decrease the violations.
  20. Are we doing the humblebrag thing? Try getting everyone off their backsides when you have a dependent or two Anyway, here's mine. It does take doing all the tests and pitching for some races.
  21. I've also been offered a second lap, seeded in 1H 06:41 Sounds way too tight to me! They'd be collecting an extra R540 with very little risk that I'd actually make it on time. Maybe in 2019
  22. My father just received the same notice. He just runs with his Fenix and as he does upwards of 2000km per year he has zero need to cheat for points. I'm livid! There's an implicit presumption of guilt here, if you don't reply within two days they just revoke the points. They provide no information on the flagged activities themselves.
  23. The slow starting pace in B batch worked for me as I managed to hold on until the group fractured on the last two hills. Index went from 23.43 to 20.96. Any chance of convincing CTCT to bump up my seeding for the race?
  24. Currently 23.4
