  1. HEY HR, Stop doubleposting to up the messagecount!
  2. Not much surprise here, except that it must be about a 75 tooth chainring a 20-20 lowracer
  3. Jy is mos nou baie dom... gebruik die raamgeld op 'n rooi fiets en 'n santa suit... en btw ... http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/johannesburg/70/15621170.html
  4. but not to worry, as we have moved on allready. supercycling forums is no more on http://www.supercycling.co.za if you click on forums, it takes you to http://www.supersport.co.za/forum/ but there are no cycling forums anymore. as we regularly realise ... thehub's admin listens, as I again realised this morning with the bigger inboxes
  5. barloworld cancelled the contract because they couldnt get any bikes, as they are in short supply ... tcs buys them up
  6. Recumbent tandems (for bigh) the pic of the tandem is a vision tandem. Unfortunately they went out of the recumbent business. Here is a picture of a Rans Screamer tandem. you also get various back to back tandems, sometimes called "janus tandems, where the stoker sits the other way round. and also tandem trikes
  7. Your first experience with human power probably was a recumbent/semi recumbent ... the normal front wheel drive tricycle. Most recumbents are extremely comfortable - because you do not put all the vitals on a few square centimeters of saddle. In fact, the lowracer (which is a 2 wheel recumbent) is actually more comfortable than most couches I have sat upon. It has got a lumbar curve to support your back, and the saddle goes from your butt, to your shoulders. The recumbent cycles in the virgin active is not the standard experience. I find then uncomfortable compared to other recumbents, and they are not very adjustable. If a vehicle cannot see you, he wont be able to see the lines on the road, or a kid on a bicycle. Vehicles give me more space, than they give me on a normal bicycle. As with normal bikes, intersections can be a problem, especially if you sneak up from behind. I only had one accident, at an intersection, where a vehicle wanted to turn right (same as me) indicators on, until the robot turned amber, and then suddenly changed his mind and wanted to go straight ahead. I hit his door with my hand and stopped without him hitting me. If I was on a normal bike, I would have went over the bonnet. we typically start with the tandems as our ride profile is very similar to tandems. slower on the uphils, and faster on the downhills. tandems= same frontal area, double weight. recumbents = same weight, half the frontal area a pic of the lowracer to give you an idea of what i am talking about The lowracer was bought as a frameset from the netherlands. it is very flat there, and the lowracer evolved in order to minimise the frontal area, and also to be as close as possible to the ground. all the shrubs next to the road, break the wind for you. the lowracer is heavy, so am I, and therefore I am slower on uphills. my best amashova time is just under half an hour faster than my best upright time. The greenspeed trike is very similiar in position to the lowracer, except that the steering is under the seat, and it has 3 wheels. the seat angle is about 30 degrees. The lowracer is actually very extreme in position compared to normal 2 wheeled recumbents. Most 2 wheeled recumbents have got the pedals lower compared to your seat, or on the same level. most recumbent balance very easy(the trike is a no brainer) but the lowracer is more difficult to get used to here is a picture of a long wheelbase This bike has a fairing on, and aero wheels. The cranks are behind the headset, and it has above seat steering. This is an american Easyracers recumbent. any normal cyclist should be able to get on this bike and ride straight on the first ride after the first 20 meters. Here is a picture of another dutch recumbent, this is a shortwheelbase recumbent, and you can see the cranks are not a high as the lowracer, and the seat is higher. It has under the seat steering
  8. cruxpearl for the biggest stable of bikes!
  9. do you really want them back as customers? but for having your good name restored, why dont you phone and speak to the dad?lowracer2007-10-25 05:38:38
  10. clean it up nicely, use neoprene cement, clamp for a few hours
  11. kan ek maar solank 'n nominasie insit vir crux vir coolest bikes 2007?
  12. oooooo are you also going to be putting small little weights on the frame so that people can see the bike is underweight?
  13. the argus was a good place to see bridgestones in the bicycle park.
  14. i've had a bridgestone rb2 with shimano 600 (later became ultegra), but have also seen rb1 and rb3. rb = roadbike. the rb3 was lower spec than the rb2 then i've also seen mb1 and mb3, presumably there also was an mb2. I think the bridgestones were oven brazed, but not sure. remembered hearing something like that.
  15. lowracer

    Kulula bo

you posted the couch pic, but you didnt give the size of the bike, or how much you want for it. and now that i think of it, it isn't in the classifieds forum either
  16. can you change the bearings on a bb nowadays, or do you buy a new one?
  17. presumably the prices are bumped up because people are buillding up period classic bikes?
  20. John Stegman is one of the founders of the argus with Bill Mylrea. One of the driving forces behind the argus was to get funds to make capetown more bike friendly. unfortunately the funds gained from the argus did not go to that, even though a lot of charities benefitted. the "rails 2 trails" initiative is very well known overseas
  21. try graeme murray, he makes adjustable carbon fibre cranks, going from 160 - 180 i think http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=%27graeme+murray%22+crank&meta=
  22. btw, barnetts can be found at http://www.bbinstitute.com/manual.htm at the bottom there are some pdf manuals to download
  23. I have pdf's of barnetts bicycle repair manual that you could download free from their website and specialized a few years ago (one chapter a month) If there is anywhere where I can upload it, then everyone can have a copy. that said, I take my bikes in for a serviceevery now and then, less hassles. but if I need to, I can work on it. i just prefer not to
