  1. Love for crumbling lace I can understand. Love for crumbling and cracking leather I can understand. Heck, I can even understand love for crumbling rubber. (all of them leaves more skin exposed) but why anyone would love crumbling grey cement is beyond me
  2. Since this starts after the Argus Cycletour, is it replacing the giro del capo? I dont see any mention of a 2008 giro. lowracer2007-10-02 11:42:35
  3. is the bike a ralleigh???
  4. hey, my bike also has different sized wheels
  5. you should not pay any import duties on bicycle parts. you only pay import duties on complete bicycles. you might pay normal VAT, and then something like clearance fees/clearance certificate costs. if you buy from the uk, the best is to buy from a normal mail order house, and confirm that they wont add vat, as you are going to pay that here
  6. I had a query on monday 12:00 and they responded 10 pm on tuesday.
  7. ok, i'm not going to win any races anytime soon ... if ever. i might win one or 2 category races .. if i am the only one in the category. I guess the csa is one of the things everyone loves to hate. what i dont understand is why they dont really do the effort to contribute to the forums, so that we can understand. we know some of them frequent the forums. except if they dont have the answer themselves. for the cyclist, who buys the cyclosport licence, or the temp licence. if he wins his category, will he get some prize money, or only if he is one of the elite riders? I dont think it has been satisfactorily answered what the difference between the cyclosport licence and a recreational licence is, or where you fit in between the two if you buy a temp licence. or is the recreational licence for the 3rd grade citizens of cycling? btw, are there different annual running licences (i'm excluding the day licences) and is the current 3 tier licence structure cycling specific?
  8. minty, i could see you were doing some serious 'rhoid buffing in a photo or two.
  9. dont worry, found it at http://www.cyclelab.com/Seeding.asp (or actually the lack of seeding, since i have not done any race sthe last 2, 5 years. my last race was the 2005 argus)lowracer2007-09-14 08:30:44
  10. uhm, where can i check my seeding?
  11. i'm not sure why everyone wants to be in ride magazine. I am in it every issue, and I must confess that the novelty wears off. ... eventually ... (check out the mypicture advert)
  12. appologies for starting another thread, but the other one is going from bad to worse to slightly better Supposedly chain-drive bikes is 98.5 percent efficient, although efficiency does tend to drop when chains are exposed to dirt and the elements here is an example of such a study http://www.jhu.edu/news_info/news/home99/aug99/bike.html With the worst of the bikes, (assume rusted chain, no lubrication, etc) the efficiency dropped to 81%. I'll be quite safe to say that RH's bike should be reasonably squeaky clean, but if we go for a 'really dirty bike for RH" , i'm quite sure you'll still get 95% efficiency at least, at the end of a long day's ride. (please note : lubrication does not make that big a difference, though dust picked up might) so if one piece of equipment measures at the crank, and another at the hub, there should be at most 5% diffence between the 2 measurements. so if one measures 1500 watt at the crank, the other should be at least 1425 watt at the hub, and the chain measure should be somewhere in between. ok real life question : what difference are you looking at between the measurements given by different powermeters.
  13. hey, it seems a lot of people around here love dogs ... ME TOOO ... so ... what are your favorite recipes? ha ha ha, just joking ... i'm going to hide now before everyone wakes uplowracer2007-09-05 14:01:14
  14. possibly the sailwind effect when you get negative drag if the wind is coming from lets say 15 degrees from the front instead of straight on? sme wheels have been known to do this
  15. is how ppl sell brand new, just about never used bikes/frames/parts/wheels. I dont know aboutt the rest of you, but I carefully think/decide about it beforehand, and even then some before i buy a new bike... and i would make very sure the frame is the right size before I buy it. so is the "brand new, 2 rides only" type reason given a pull wool over the eyes like "it was only driven by my granny on a sunday afternoon" ploy? Are they trying to pull a fast one by taking a 5k knock on a new frame that they bought for 20k, and now selling for 15 k because it is "too small/big/pink/green" or whatever, since they actually bought it for less than 15K? I know there are ligitimate sellers, that suddenly run into financial difficulties, but it seems there are more than can be accounted for or otherwise ppl really buy on the spur of the moment. please enlighten me....!!! especially if you are/were one of the sellers! lowracer2007-07-05 09:33:21
  17. well, if you are the same guy that have a toilet role holder shaped like a front-end of a bicycle ...
  18. if you have 2 flashing lights, change one to be on permanently. you cannot accurately see the position if the light is flashing ... it messes up depth perception, as it is not on long enough
  19. appologies if it is old news, this is from the Go Multi List <gomultimag@topica.com> The most beautiful sport has a special place in its heart for South Africa it seems. A new elite cycle race, the Tour of South Africa, will be held for the first time later this year. The seven-day event will start on November 18, with 20 teams of six riders each participating. http://www.sportbusiness.com/news/161084/south-africa-to-host-elite-cycle-race <details pasted in> SOUTH AFRICA TO HOST ELITE CYCLE RACE Fri, 19/01/2007 - 09:19 A new elite cycle race, the Tour of South Africa will be held for the first time later this year. The seven-day event will start on 18 November 2007 with 20 teams of 6 riders taking part. The race will form part of the elite professional calendar in 2007 and is expected to attract leading cycling teams from across the world. There is no qualification with teams invited to take part. Those participating will include teams from the UK, Germany, Japan, USA and South Africa. The route is yet to be finalised, but proposed options include stages in the Cape Province, Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal. The Tour of South Africa organisers, Sweetspot, are working with a number of partners including, Cycling South Africa, South Africa Tourism, and the South African International Marketing Council to finalise the route and to maximise the impact of the race on the country?s economy. A foundation will be established to ensure surplus income is re-invested into community projects across the country. Hugh Roberts, Chief Executive of Sweetspot said, ?The Tour of South Africa will become a landmark event in the professional cycling calendar. Its uniqueness comes from the fact that it is Africa's premier cycle race encouraging the best teams and riders to take part on the African continent. With its sports orientated culture we believe it is an obvious location for an elite cycling race.? The race will follow a similar model to other leading cycle races, such as the Tour of Britain and Le Tour de France. There is no single event sponsor, instead funding comes from a combination of both the public and private sectors, with a host of commercial opportunities available.

  21. most efficient and stiff might be a prone bicycle, but I wont take it out on the road (taxi territory) the motion will compare more to when you are climbing stairs, than riding a bike. http://www.encycleopedia.com/index.cfm?pid=23&edID=216 http://www.encycleopedia.com/assets/enc/2001/Speed%20and%20Distance/prone/lgPhoto1.jpg
