  1. Glad they use CURRENT races...some people demand that they use last year's Argus time and races they did well over 7-8 months ago. You can get very unfit in a year!!

    Argus 2014

Another one topping the list is....the week before Argus everyone get's the flu. In case you ride a k@k time you have an excuse.
  3. daar is 'n rede hoekom ander bike shops vol is...en ander nie so besig nie
  4. EISH! the road going from Paar towards the finish is narrower than the 99er back roads with no yellow line....plus short route joining up with long route. Do not know why the organizers cannot learn from other peoples mistakes, this is def a no go and think insurance companies will start excluding certain races with logic like this. This race always use to be my fav race. P.S - Please read the route before entering!!
  5. Loved the race...gravel was in a very good condition. If you fell on the gravel section you were just going too fast for your skill level regarding racing and holding a line. Go a bit slower till you feel comfortable to handle your bike. Yesterday everyone was raving about the gravel... Saw plenty of times random guys who want to sit in front when they do not belong there...accident waiting to happen. Race only started on Malanshoogte! Well organised race with a curve ball!!
  6. I prefer Saturday racing...then I have the rest of the weekend for myself. I think reason for Saturday MTB races is that you do not get traffic so hosting it on that day gives the organisers a Sunday off and give cyclists the option to race both. (If you host a MTB and Road race on the same day thehub guys would moan why they not split it up because the one messes with the other ones territory(gravel/road)) Road races mostly on Sunday's because of traffic...
  7. i can already see the crashes in bunch %!!!
  8. Agree...just saying that SS not suitable for cycle races (my opinion ). Front few bunches OK, but if you look at the chaos from middle to back of race...scary!
  9. That is why I prefer not racing in the S-Suburbs. It is dangerous plain and simple, PPA can be partly blamed but I do understand that they get pressure to host a race in that area, the S-Sub is not suitable for cycle races and to host a race there you are looking for trouble. Even if PPA had proper marshal's there is so many other dangerous factors that could come into play. Sad part is the routes are awesome but, we as cyclists can moan as much as we like but if there is no full road closure you can forget a safe ride.
  10. Cannot believe we as weekend warriors/fun-riders discussing "what to eat after a race" to lose weight!? Common guys...eat healthy during the week and at least reward yourself to eat what you want after the race! If there is one day in the week that you can treat yourself then it is after a race. I can understand if you have 8% body fat and aim for a world champs podium where every gram counts...but to punish yourself like that as a fun-rider is insane. To sum it up: The pro's (international and local) is most properly more relaxed about eating habits than you guys regarding this topic. #waytooscientific
  11. Looking forward to this race!!!! Hope I get back in one piece...
  12. The problem with Elites/CAT1 - that there is only about 5 guys that do the racing, the rest hang on for dear life no matter what it takes(wrong side of the road, taking each other out, etc.) just to say "I am racing Elites". That is why I moved to SV racing, less incidents and Saturday proved again that the racing is positive.
  13. While we at it...ask the cyclist to get off the N12...not safe and they do not belong there. Next time they might be not be so lucky.
  14. When you ride for a team they usually cover your entry fee for the league....
  15. looks like I need to find a team to enter the league...getting a bit steep.
  16. Not disagreeing but I need to add my 5c because you do not get a 2c anymore: I do not want to race on a Sat afternoon...whole day gone esp 170km PPA cater for guys like me who is fit enough to race but do not have the ability/time to race 160km PPA cater for the masses...to move a ride/race for 20-30 guys going to SA's not worth it. Gauteng does not have a league like us never mind 160km races. SA's age-group racing....think Western Cape is up there. The Light's by Linea is great for Elite racing in Cape Town but I like my 80 - 110km morning races.
  17. I do 2 swimming sessions a week (been swimming for over a year now), helps a lot if you do MTB. I use to have a weak core and arms not the strongest, since I started to swim my arms and back does not get stiff/weak in the races and feel that my body handles the stress a lot better. I do not have time to go to gym and pump iron and do long core exercises. Swimming takes care of that in one shot. I think a lot of people will agree if your arm or back takes strain your bike performance take a dip at the same time.
  18. Just a heads up regarding that...when I started MTBing about 3 years ago I thought Argus MTB route was awesome, gravel roads, between farms and getting the "out of town" feeling. The more you go out on your MTB and explore new routes and different venues, the following year you come back to Argus MTB and realize that the route is boring and waste of time. My point is that there is a lot people who will enjoy this route as first timers or weekend warriors that does not go out every weekend to go and ride MTB. It will be difficult to cater for every person and to find a route that will suite all riders.
  19. Bike is fine...his quick release arm got caught in my front wheel, took half of my spokes out of the rim. I promise u if I had to fall 50m before the line I would have not got up...was in my moer! Think we were all so chuffed with our result that they thought to take me out was a nice cherry on the cake to get publicity.
  20. The guy was me taking a nice tumble!! Looked behind me where our 6th rider was then team mate came from inside...wished I fell over the line and not 2.5m before it!! Getting too old for this Well done to all...do not think that weather was "easier", felt like we we riding most of the time against the wind.
  21. U can enter on the day...good luck!
