  1. I've heard the Stans Race sealant is very good, supposed to be much thicker. Is this available locally?
  2. It will be easy to avoid some of the congestion if they allowed people to park on the grass verges on the way to the car park, it's then a nice warm up ride to the start. I parked up on the grass and a guy came and told me I couldn't, I told him the car overheated and he left me there. After the race I saw that everyone parked up on the side. I enjoyed the race although it seemed like everybody was pacing themselves for the climb so the pace was a bit slow in 1D, especially the first 30km. Only my second ever race so was quite interesting to see how determined people are to not do any work at all in the wind. It looked like a large number of riders couldn't complete that distance on their own in under 4 hours
  3. I'm sorry, I already have them fully loaded with 4 bottles of sealant and 6 Schwalbe Pro One (not all for me)
  4. The Giant tyres didn't look particularly strong but held up well for my first 900km. It's what happens when they do get a flat. The state of my bike and the garage floor, I was cursing sludge and stans.
  5. I recently bought a TCR which comes tubeless ready and today I found out what everyone's frustrations were with going tubeless. The shop put 'sludge' in there. It basically sprayed everywhere and wouldn't seal at anything over 40psi and got nasty sealant all over the place. I'm comparison, Orange seal plugs the hole immediately, leaving the tyre at 70psi and the small amount of sealant is very, very easily removed. I put some Stans in when I got home and that is just as bad. My folks come from the UK in 2 weeks with some Orange Seal. On the plus side, I did get through the dodgeville sprint in Woodstock and home without needing to stop. I just couldn't inflate the tyre more than 40psi or it would start spraying out again.
  6. Bloody hell, I'm in 3J. This is my first official race. I may or may not have unofficially done my first argus last year in 3h 10min
  7. Did I read somewhere that they will be using Strava information for seeding? It will be my first 'official' race so I have no seeding at all, although I have just signed up for the Stellies race. I'm not sure they have a computer big enough to start looking at strava data and gathering metrics.
  8. ****, I cycle past there every day. Who is buying those new apartments across the road? R1.8M for a 1 bedroom with a view of the railway tracks and gympie Street!
  9. I heard it might be arriving SA in Feb next year. Looking at CRC they are £60 compared to £32 for a GP4000
  10. Tubeless will be available in 25, 28 & 32
  11. I didn't even know it came in 3 variations. I just checked and I have the Endurance
  12. There seems to be a perception that sealant starts spraying all over the place. It really doesn't at all. Like I said, I've had no problem carrying on with my ride at 60 psi (4 bar)
  13. Orange seal works. I used to run at 95psi and it sealed before 60 psi every time. If I was commuting I would cycle until home or pull into a petrol station. If I was in a race I would happily keep on going
  14. Get a puncture when you're heading for a sub 3 argus and you'll regret not going tubeless! LOL
  15. Amazon.co.uk definitely have it, I bought some in Sept
  16. I think Stans has given road tubeless a bad name, everyone seems to complain about it. This is what I watched that convinced me to go tubeless and then as I said I have done 4000km trouble free riding. I don't think it's available locally but I bought the Pro One's and orange seal from CRC
  17. I used orange seal, just took off my schwalbe Pro one rear that had gone through to the casing after 4000km. I never stopped to repair a puncture. I think the sealant fixed about 5 punctures during that time. Stans normal sealant doesn't seem to work, they have a new one called 'race' for road bikes
  18. My American Classic V30's are tubeless and don't have a sealed rim bed. They are considered 'proper'.
  19. Not true. Rim tape seals spoke holes. A tubeless rim has a specific edge on the inside rim to hold the tubeless tyre securely.
  20. You have to specifically ask canyon to send you a VAT receipt when ordering, they won't send it after.
  21. I ride Albert Road every day and the cycle lane makes it more dangerous for cyclists. If you're in the lane you're in direct fire for a door opening. Also, the cars that are coming from the side roads pull right into the cycle lane before looking left and right. They have to do this because if they stopped at the stop line the parked cars obscure their vision. A sharp swerve out of the cycle lane to avoid opening doors, car guards and cars puts you into the cats eyes. I mainly cycle in the road. It's a big fail. It was never thought out
  22. Both my tubeless and non-tubeless tyres have a max pressure warning of 8 bar which is crazy hard. I run my tyres at 7 bar no problem. When they have had a puncture they went down to between 4-6 bar. I've never stopped to inspect, just keep on rolling and pump them up again to 7bar when I get home. Rinse and repeat. There is no crazy squirting out of sealant as you described
  23. Thanks for the contribution but not true
  24. I'm keen. Do we have a closed road from Forries to FH?
  25. I've had a great experience with tubeless since June last year. My advice would be to put in more like 80ml of sealant. At the higher pressures on road tyres I think you can lose some sealant quickly so it pays to have a bit extra to close up that hole.
