  1. Very cool idea me thinks - def beats a medal
  2. Apologies for hijacking this thread but I may have the solution for those with this problem. My mother went over to support my brother doing the Transalps a year or two back and drove around in the car with his and his partners kit in the back. As you can imagine the smell was glorious. Having worked in the fragrance industry and being a part time chemist she decided to come up with a formulation to combat this problem (long term goal is to start a little business). She is busy testing the latest sample and it has worked wonders on mine and my mates stuff. You rinse the clothes in it prior to washing. Can also be used to spray onto smelly hydration packs or shoes. If you guys/girls want I can check if she has samples available for you try – all you would need to do is let her know whether the formulation worked for you or not. Definitely no chance of it damaging any kit as it is essentially a fabric softener with a smell removing agent added - worst thing that can happen is the smell doesn't go away. PM if keen for a sample (gratis) – based in the North of Joeys.
  3. Mutual respect is a must. I, as a cyclist, need to be aware that walkers, dog owners etc probably cannot hear me coming so I need to give them a wide berth and pass at a sensible speed. Also, if cycling in a DESIGNATED leash free area the dog is king. I get that and fully agree - I am at the point of getting a dog and would like to be able to walk it somewhere without it getting ploughed into by a weekend warrior. That said, considering there are in fact designated leash free areas it is extremely inconsiderate of dog owners (especially those whose dogs seem to be attracted to bicycle wheels) to parade around with their dogs off the leash, particularly along the Spruit. Keep the dog on the leash until you reach that leash free zone - simple. I actually find dog owners more inconsiderate than cyclists (somewhat biased assessment possibly!) - one just needs to look at the heaps (literally) of dog cr@p that is never picked up by the dog owner and the number of dogs not on leashes, when by law they should be.
  4. Farewell ride before putting old bike out to pasture
  5. Depends on what your cycling partner looks like - Penelope Cruz or Natalie Portman and the missus will not be too happy. Different story if she looks like Susan Boyle!
  6. Where is that at NF?
  7. Getting chased by ostriches at Groenies is bad enough!
  8. Hate taxi drivers with a passion - they are without doubt one of the lowest forms of humanity.
  9. I did the first USN race and for this exact reason I did not do the second. They should have learnt from the first race and done batch starts or encouraged those "walkers" to start at the back as there were some total tools who started in the front.
  10. I also did for the first race - the 30km. Was a great race and varied route, some awesome single and jeep track. Only issue was a lot of walking for the first 10kms or so due to people dismounting at the "technical" sections which were not technical at all. As RudoJ says - get there early to start at the front. The 60km is 2 laps of the 30km
  11. Snot Rockets - fun, until someone gets hurt!
  12. Used to be cool - bit of a dog show these days me thinks
  13. Go check out Thread magazine - did a 29er review with some bikes in that price range
  14. Hand it to the garden technician on Monday morning and ask him to clean.
  15. Congrats - you are now broke!
  16. Up their ages to 15 and make them triplets!
  17. Cube gets my vote. Best looking of the lot in my view. I have the 26' version and love it - same reasoning would apply to the 29er (just bigger wheels)!
  18. DNF = Sh*t Happens. Have a mate riding this year who is now a DNF after the team suffering a broken derailer, broken saddle, broken frame and a broken collar bone (think the frame and collar bone happened simultaneously). The guy has 4 Epic finishes and a top 20 in amongst those 4 so is not a monkey on the bike. Sometimes you are just unlucky I guess.
  19. Looks very cool - next year def
  20. Just got a response from one of the mods - looks like it will be reposted!
  21. Just had a post deleted - curious as to the reason why.
  22. Covie can you elaborate on the sugar/32GI issue? Why does sugar render 32GI useless?
  23. At the risk of contradicting my original post, I see that Thread magazine just did a review of an entry level Raleigh 29er and it wasn't half bad. Bike retails in the 3k area, can always upgrade brakes etc when have more cash.
