  2. Sammajoor...I bet this is the reason for your 11 500 posts. Online life is so much easier
  3. @TNT1, she cycles as well...so what more can you ask for:) @Le Turbo / T Guy - cool, will give them a shout
  4. Hubbers I am getting married in a month's time in Cape Town and looking for a real classic vintage bike to use as a "prop" for some of the wedding pics. My Trek will look cool, but would prefer an old-school classic. Cool
  5. Hi there Any fellow hubbers got a lift for me and my bicycle back to George on Sunday afternoon? If not for the bicycle, then just for me. Thanks a lot 0822946002
  6. Well...it was actually my sub 3h splits
  7. I tried the spirits yesterday, but then I got high...i was gonna try the Mister Min too, but then I got high...now i am at work and I am high, yeah yeah...cause i got high, cause i got high (sorry Afroman, i had to do it) Great, thx for all the tips anyway! Will give it a go tonight. LOL "Argust"-chirps...i have given the roadbike a bit of a rest, enjoying my MTB a bit!
  8. okay...so its all in the title. What is the best way to remove the argus sticker glue still sitting on my carbon stem and handlebars?? If there has been a previous thread on this a link would be great, can't find it with search. cool
  9. Spike did my right ACL 8 years ago, and did a pretty good job but I didn't like his personality and "after sale service" / rehab very much. I had my left ACL done by Dr Taine Munting from Sports Science in Newlands 3 years ago. He is a cyclist too, nice guy and he did a great job. I did the Burger 2.5months after my ACL reconstruction. If I had a choice i will go for Munting
  10. well...loads of other factors Upgraded from a 8.4kg Alu Trek - 2010 Argus time 3h16, windy and group D, I weighed 78.5kg Madone to a 6.85KG Carbon Trek Madone - 2011 Argus time 2h53, windless and started in A. I weighted 73kg So the 23 minutes could be explained by 1) bike; 2) wind 3) group 4) my weight. So it actually looks pretty even. But, big difference is that i was overseas in 2011 and did not do any training. Only did one 90km ride and spinning 2 times a week. Whereas in 2010 I did 2 months of hard training. In my opinion, bike probably made a 5 - 8 minute difference on Argus, its definitely quicker to accelarate and slightly quicker up hills, so more difficult to get dropped - but its sort off same on downhills and flats (especially if you ride in groups). The new one is also more comfy and nicer on the eye!
  11. freaking nice!
  12. got Fizik Arione on roadbike and Fizik Gobi XM on mtb...love them
  13. i run the white rocket rons (tubeless conversion) on my scott genius...and up until yesterday had 6 months of puncture free riding. BUT as discussed at length in a previous thread....they do not have the greatest sidewalls. I did a jump on Jonkershoek downhill, ended up going off the gravel into a "braambos" and cut my sidewall. So yeah, its great for weight saving, money saving and looks. But i think i will get contis today or tom.
  14. Hijack Yah, that was quite crazy...especially the turn-off to noordhoek, and the loads of stop starts. The guy dropping his chain at start of Chappies made me (and the 200 okes behind) almost crash... BUT i don't think there was any crashes in A or in the extended A/VB/VA bunch? One guy in A went down in fish hoek at about 45km/h, was freaking funny, he was in the middle of the bunch towards the front..then just started leaning on the guy next to him for about 3-5seconds and then whiped out completely. Amazingly he took nobody down with him and ended up on his feet in the middle of the bunch shouting "Im okay"! haha
  15. results are up now! Just search for your name...or your age group within starting group (only first page of group comes up when you search entire group). 2H53 - Average of 37.97 KM/H. So freaking happy, but just missed the A group 2h49 bunch, they were 200m infront of me at 12 Apostles, but the 7 other guys with me didnt want to work! On another note - I`m a serial cramper. I know you shouldn't try anything new on race day, but popped a rennie every 30min, and used concentrated Hammer Perpetuam (caffeine one)...and no cramps for first time ever, and my legs 100% today!
  16. And whatsup with all the guys still trying to sell Powerbalance...or wtf they try and call their pieces of plastic??

    Tubes

Hi How big a difference does inner tubes make on a roadbike. I`m running Conti GP4000s at the moment and have always just used the basic R40 Kendas. Is it worth paying R100 on CRC for Conti Sprint/Race (50g tube)? If there's really a difference, what would be the best weight/durability tube? Thx
  18. i think i`ll join as well! Staying in Sea Point. Pumping the hills, and chill for the rest sounds good.

    rocket ron

hey, I have Rocket Rons too and "converted" them to tubeless. No problems whatsoever, been riding tough roads in Kenya for a couple of months, and everyone tuning my white tyres, but I have not had one puncture. They did deflate a bit initially, but according to some guys in the know here the "bombs" can sometimes react with Stans and cause them to deflate...don't ask me how. Haven't pumped my tyres in 3 weeks now and haven't lost any pressure. COol
  20. yay for A! Finally found decent spinning classes in Nairobi...but will have to kill that Suikerbossie for the 3 weeks i`m back in SA before the Argus if I wanna get that elusive sub 3h (already praying for wind free day)!
  21. Actually found the race rules: 1. Swim 1.1. Wetsuits: are allowed based on water temperature measured the day prior to the event and confirmed on the day of the event. Pro/Elite Athletes: Wetsuits are allowed for pro athletes if the water temperature is below 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Centigrade). Age Group Athletes: Wetsuits are allowed for age group athletes if the water temperature is below 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)
  22. think its 22 or 23 - measured on the day before the race. So you will know when you get there! Has not happened in last couple of years...
  23. yeah i`ve also always wondered where he's getting his stock from...he's been around for about 3 years at least, and always have loads of bikes on gumtree. I suspect if there was any dodgy business from his side it would've come out by now as he has been openly trading for so long... I have actually spoken to Neil way back when, when I was interested in a bike and he seems like a nice guy....but as you say he doesn't appear to know that much about bike specs etc (and he probably doesn't ask too many questions from his suppliers)!
  24. yeah...low fat milk works good as a recovery drink. I currently use Low Fat milk, Milo, bit of honey and then chuck in an extra egg for a bit more protein.
  25. Well...if you are mentally tough enough you can do it!! I've had 3 ACL reconstructions in the past and a big motorbike accident (hurting my knee again) on 7 January 2010 and managed to finish my first IM in 13h10. My work hours also didn't allow me to train too much...but this is what i did. Weekdays: I focussed on my swimming...as its important to start race with confidence. Did about 1.2km - 1.5km, 4 mornings in gym pool - and twice a week followed that by a spinning session. I did another 1km swim about 2 times a week in the evening. Cycling - did 2 morning spin classes, and 1 evening spin class and 3-4 rides out on the road during the week of about 50km. Once in a blue moon i would do a light run to the gym and back...about 6km return. Weekends: Would do a Sat and Sunday brick session. Swim 2.5km - 3.2km (only couple of times 3.8km) - about 50min to 1h10 Bike 70 - 80km (Sea Point to Noordhoek/Misty Cliffs) - about 2h20 / 2h30 Run 5km - about 25mins (in feb and march, after my knee injury) I once did a 17km run just to check if i can do distance, but my total running km's were prob around 100km in 3 months. If you are mentally tough enough and just want to finish you don't have to run that much...some people will differ from me. But if you going for 12-15hours, you will do lots of walking on the run, so running fitness doesn't help that much in my opinion. I did 1h20 on swim, 6hours on bike (aimed for 5h10, but had cramps from 40k, as I never trained with tri-bars, so don't make same mistake). Did about 5h15ish on run...walked a lot during first half marathon and recoverd, did it in 3h15, second half marathon i did in 2h00. Cool - enjoy it! Its not as tough as others would like you to think! Be confident with swim and bike and push through on run! You are not a pro...so enjoy it!
