  1. I am seriously considering doing the 24 hour MTB race at Northern Farm so I have been looking at lights. Obviously I don?t want do break the bank for one race. They recommend a 10w light which basically gives you between 1 to 2 hours. So what?s up, do you have to have 3 to 6 battery?s all charges up. LCD lights have the battery live but not the wattage. I currently have a really nice Black Diamond LCD head lamp but I doubt if that will be enough. The other option is to ride until dark, have a good night?s sleep and restart at the crack of dawn but that would effectively be a 12hour race.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> SO what do your guys suggest?.
  2. Money, money, money its a rich man's world...... Lets take a guess: <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Frame: R12000 Shock(Reba): R4000 X9 groupo: R4000 Wheels and tires: R4000 Etc: R4000 So a cool R28 000?? Waaaaaaaaaaay pass my budget. I would be luck if my CFO (Chief Financial Officer) will allow me R10000. May be able to sneak a incremental upgrade pass her.....
  3. Dream bike.....
  4. I have a soft spot for a Santa Cruz Superlight
  5. Oops, I am heavy and I am looking for a Marathon Bike......
  6. Special pull shock.
  7. As always it depends on price. I have been eyeing this one on BikeBay, but was a bit worried about the availability of spares for the rear shock plus its relative short travel. It also does not have V-brake bosses which would make it inpossible for me to do a stages upgrade. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://www.bikebay.co.za/Products/ProductProfile.aspx?ProdGuid=07709eef-0792-4314-99fb-e75c764de30e My mongoose is really old (7speed plus Canti brakes) which means I would have had to upgrade my wheels and buy disc brakes. It would therefore be better to look for a bike as I would like to upgrade to 9sp and a newer shock.

  13. Cyclelab Centurion has Gp4000s
  14. After doing the cyclocross race ( even the medal had a cyclocross bike on it, strange) disguised as a 6 hour MTB race I now the following: <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> 1) Cyclocross would not work for me. 2) I really glad that I do not live in England/Europe/Canada etc where this is the default weather conditions except it is cold too. 3) Summer races are not such a good id?e. 4) I should consider building that rigid single speed bike for such conditions. I would have hated doing the race on an expensive multi pivot full suspension bike. I winched every time I looked down and saw my chain lubed with mud. For the rest it was fun. I learned a lot about mud riding. The race would have been really nice if it was dry. Nice venue too.
  15. I see Cervelo is also being riped off.

  19. Now wait for the fun to start. UCI will book Protour races for the same time as the big tour effectively taking the Protour teams out of the tour?s. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  20. Would have liked to have joint you guys but my wife is working the whole weekend at Kloof hospital and I am on baby sitting duty. The area is frequented by smash and grab artists etc. so be careful.
  21. That is why I call it Tax. Pay it and don't expect anything in return.
  22. Compact with 12-25 or 12-26.
  23. Running has one license that is applicable for all the disciplines (Road, track and xc). There is a temp license for races over 5km (Fun runs). The temp license cost anything between R15 ?R20 depending of the distance. Some big (looooong) races like Comrades require that you are licensed. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> My club plus license fee was R220 (R75 license fee) this year. I moved to a multi sport running club which makes it possible to also get a Cyclosport license without having to join another club. Running should not be used as a good example. The club system work in that race is organized by a club which keeps the cost down. The relationship with ASA and road running isn?t very good. They tend to want to meddle where they should not. They forced Comrades to move and then banned all road races on youth day. They also tried to force organizers to drop some of the longer races because they felt there where to many on the calendar. Next they tried to give their race series preferential treatment and have long established race before and after their race cancelled. The problem is that most of the license fees come from the road runners. But most of the money is spend on track (Olympic) athletics which is a small elite group and admin fees (including trips to world cup events and the Olympics for officials). I see the same thing happening in cycling. Most of the money will be spend on a small elite group, road and track, and the rest on admin. I consider my running license fee as Running Tax. Now I will have to start paying Cycling Tax too.

  25. Does anybody know something more about the following?<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Extract from CSA News Letter ? 3. Cyclo-Sport Licences will continue to be in the same form; a Licence card will be issued and licence holders will continue to be required to be a member of a club or a member of Pedal Power Association. The price for a Cyclo-Sport Licence with effect from 1 January 2008 is likely to be set at R100,00. 4. The CSA Recreational Licence will be an alternative to the Cyclo-Sport Licence and, as its name implies, is intended for recreational cyclists who are not really interested in competition. It will be cheaper and no licence card will be issued initially but it will still be a requirement that the licence holder must be a member of a club or of Pedal Power Association. The licence fee will be R20,00 but in the first year ending December 2008 this will be paid by PPA or the clubs with whom cyclists are members. PPA and <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Central Gauteng (on behalf of their clubs) are currently paying R20,00 a cyclist over to CSA. Other Provinces are supposed to be paying the R20,00 a cyclist to CSA on behalf of their club members and steps will be taken to ensure that they do so in future. CSA Recreational Licences taken out between 1 September 2007 and 31 December 2007 will be extended until 31 December 2008, automatically. ? So what is the difference between the Recreational and Cyclosport licenses? So in short I wasted my money getting a Cyclosport license. Then again licenses = wasted money.
