I put the Easton's on bought 2nd hand from a friend ( he's also not sure what it is) as it came with Scott wheels . It's has full tiagra which is as new. Hope someone can tell from the pics. It's was apparently yellow and black originally . Any help would be much appreciated .
  3. When and where can I get hold of a scott spark or scale 700 frame
  4. Top of my shopping list at the moment. Any positive/negative feedback? Any other in the same price range worth considering? http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/234016008/bike-scale-935-l/
  5. So, after having been riding (and enjoying riding) a fairly "mass-market" Scott Scale since the beginning of 2013, I decided it was time for something special again. The Scale's an amazing climber, and because of it's sub-70deg HA, it actually handles a bit of tech quite respectably, but I've been missing railing into berms flat out and then bouncing off the gnarly stuff on the way out. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a well-cared-for Pyga OneTen29 last week and proceeded to rebuild it with a mixture of new and used parts. The spec list: Frame: Pyga OneTen29 2012, serial number "Cliff", Shock: Rockshox Monarch RT3 Fork: Mongrel Rockshox Relevation (2012 lowers, 2014 RCT3 upper assembly with FastBlack stanchions) Wheelset: Novatec Flowtrail 29 Tyres: Rocket Ron 2.25 rear, Hans Dampf 2.35 front Cranks: XX1 156q GXP Derailleur: X9 type 2 short-cage Shifter: X0 black Brakes: XT 785 Rotors: XT RT76, 180mm front, 160mmm rear Pedals: XT 785 Trail Stem: FSA SL-K Bar: Truvativ Noir T40 Seatpost: Easton EA70 Saddle: Fizik Tundra 2 Mg The raw finish of the frame was looking a bit dull and scratched in places, so I took everything apart and applied some TLC with steel wool and a scourier sponge in places. Cliff from Pyga was very helpful in supplying a new decal kit, which pimped things out again afterwards. I spent a few nights last week and some time over the weekend building stuff up (thanks to Marc at Crown Cycles for helping with a few bits and bobs during Argus mania). The end result since last night is this: I have yet to ride it any further than the road in front of the house, so will report back as soon as the first ride is over. So far, I've been mighty impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the beast. Hot damn!
  6. I would like to say a big thank you to Steve Bowman from Cycle Lab Cape Town. My wonderful Scott 29er developed a small problem and dispite me not buying it from CL, Steve handled the entire warranty process and handed me a new bike in next to no time. A big up to you Steve!
  7. My Scott Spark Pro comes with a Sram Carbon S-2210 GXP PF, Carbon crankarm, 38Ax24A T. is this a re-branded X0?
  8. Friend of mine's was nicked in Potch last night. Will get more details but should be a small size 29'er. Please be on the lookout and let me know if you spot one somewhere or for sale looking dodgy. Thanks, WW.
  9. Hi Guys I've been searching for a new bike for weeks now and just can't settle on anything. I have around R 20k to spend and have managed to narrow my choice down to the following two bikes unless someone has a better offer than these around that price that I've missed??? I need to choose this week between the SCOTT SCALE 940 or MERIDA BIG NINETY NINE 1000??? I'm no pro rider but not a beginner either. Currently I've been riding a 2010 MONGOOSE TYAX SUPER. The type of riding I do is stage stuff like Sani2c and 40-60km single day rides. Please help, I gotta choose this week!!!!
  10. http://www.cape-epic...o_set_the_pace/ New and old partnerships will set the pace at this year’s Absa Cape Epic, which takes place from 23 to 30 March. The race will see 1 200 cyclists take on the challenging 718km with 14 850m of climbing, visiting the towns of Robertson, Greyton and Elgin, and finishing eight days later at Lourensford Wine Estate. Four times Absa Cape Epic winner Christoph Sauser will take on the 2014 challenge with Frantisek Rabon – a former roadie – for the first time. The partnership between Nino Schurter and Philip Buys will also be another new South African/Swiss combination. Mixed category champion Ariane Kleinhans will be riding in the Women’s category for the first time with Annika Langvad. No doubt that all eyes will also be on Karl Platt, another favourite who won the Absa Cape Epic four times, when he partners again with Urs Huber as the old “tried and tested” team. http://www.cape-epic.com//data/news/06_Frantisek%20and%20Christoph.jpg New Partnership: Christoph Sauser and Frantisek Rabon Riding as part of team Meerendal-Songo-Specialized, Sauser is arguably the world’s most celebrated mountain bike rider with both marathon and cross-country world titles (apart from being an Olympic medal champion and four times Absa Cape Epic winner title holder). Although 2014’s new partnership with Rabon is untested, the same could be said of him and Czech teammate Jaroslav Kulhavy before they dominated the 2013 event. Says Sauser: “I’m delighted that I’ve found a very strong partner in Rabon. He has a great character and personality. He’s also committed to win the 2014 Absa Cape Epic. However, many unexpected scenarios can happen, which we’re very aware of.” Rabon adds: “It’s such an honour to ride with Christoph. He’s such a legend and we’ve become really good teammates, so I feel really good about us riding together.” Nino Schurter and Philip Buys will be competing as team Scott-Odlo Racing. Schurter is a specialist when it comes to short course cross-country races, where races last 90 minutes. As a world champion, there is little doubt that his immense physiology and skill will carry him to an elusive stage win and perhaps a podium spot overall. In turn, local lad Buys demonstrated he is up to this monumental task when he dueled José Hermida and Rudi van Houts to the finish line in Lourensford last year. http://www.cape-epic.com//data/news/04_Philip%20and%20Nino.jpeg New Partnership: Nino Schurter and Philip Buys Says Schurter: “We’re racing together for the first time and I’m really looking forward to it. Philip has great experience with stage races in the African heat and I’ve got experience in cross-country races. This will make us super strong.” Buys adds: “I feel honoured to ride with the fastest rider on the planet. Although slightly nervous, my excitement overpowers it.” Mixed category winner Ariane Kleinhans has foregone her partnership with husband Erik to participate this year with Annika Langvad in the Women’s category. Langvad might be seen as a newbie, but the two-time marathon world champion, Danish cross-country and time trial champion, is a good match. Kleinhans comments: “Annika and I previously participated in a stage race where we won every stage as well as the overall. It was a very good test for our new partnership. We made a really good team both on and off the bike. We’re very motivated to go for the overall win.” Langvad adds: “Even though we’re two very different riders with two completely different histories, somehow everything just fits together.” Karl Platt and Urs Huber will ride together for the second time as the Bulls. The Swiss/German team proved last year that they never give up fighting. http://www.cape-epic.com//data/news/ACE2013Day7_GB-283.JPG Tried and Tested: Karl Platt and Urs Huber Says Platt: “I think we had a very successful partnership last year and we’re looking forward to this year’s event.” Huber adds: “Our second place in the 2013 Absa Cape Epic was a sign that we’re a good team. Our goal is to win, which means we have to be focused and concentrate during the whole week, without making any mistakes.” This post has been promoted to an article

  15. So I am looking to upgrade to a 29inch. At the moment I am between the 2014 Scott Scale 940 and the Merida Big.Nine 1500. Any suggestions?
  16. I recently read to my dismay that the Fox CTD is rather crap. On my previous bike I had a Reba RL fork and the infamous DT Swiss M210 shock. So when time came to upgrade my bike I though something with Fox CTD front and back would be nice. Seems it was the wrong choice by reading all the negativity around it. Anyways, it seems the complaints were mostly around the Evolution series forks and to a lesser extent, the shocks. Luckily for me it seems, I chose the Giant Anthem with the Performance series and not the Scott Spark with the Evolution series, something I didn't even notice beforehand. My question though is, are the issues sorted on the 2014 models or should I start saving for a Monarch and SID so long?
  17. My house was burgled today, my 29'er Scott Scale 940 2013 (two months old, black and blue) stolen from behind the security gates of my front porch. Guess no Argus for me now... Would appreciate it if people could keep an eye out on websites or the like - bike had slicks put on (I know - don't start), and has a non-matching female friendly saddle. Stolen from Boston, Bellville

  19. Hi Guys, we've set up a group to ensure that refunds from the Durban Dirt are made. Please see the group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1417663621815162/1417675111814013/?notif_t=group_activity just add your name, and we'll then refer it to TIB & B-Active. Some riders have been refunded, and some haven't, hence the group. Please advise anyone else that you know who entered the event. Thanks, Scott.
  20. Suspect I saw a stolen bike this morning. If anyone has had a scott scale (think it is Alu) taken from them recently I saw a guy riding one at 5.35am past Bryan Park shopping centre JHB. He was wearing work clothes, cap and white headphones that could have been from an ipod. I suspect this could be his commuting route. The bike was a 29er Scott White fork, I think it was that metallic grey with white scott writing. Bike looked quite new. Unfortunately I did not see it for long and it was dark. Could be worth checking the area out round that time in the morning. I would imagine if he had bought that kind of bike he would at least have a helmet or shorts.
  21. Hi guys Would appreciate some input... The mtb bug has bitten, and I'm looking at doing some small upgrades to my bike. I know you guys will say wheels, but not looking to spend that much right now (have my eye on some ZTR's with hope hubs :-)) I have a Scott Scale 960, so components are entry level. XT rear derailleur and the rest is Deore, barring the crank. What suggestions? I'm looking at a maximum spend of R2000. Hoping to pick up some bargains at expo or on the current sales. PS :already have tubeless.
  22. Hi guys I'm recently back on the saddle after about 8 years off it. My last bike (still have it) was a Giant Sedona from about 1925, so I thought I'd treat myself to some new hardware. Did some serious lurking on The Hub as well as hours of checking out reviews etc on the interwebs (must say, that was quite fun). Anyway, in my price range, it seemed that the Trek Mamba 2012 would be the bike to go for at around R9000. Great reviews all round and very little negative comment. I went to Cajees in Fourways to look for one, not knowing they don't do Trek and happened to see the Scott Scale 960. This bike retails for US$1419 in the States (The Mamba between US$900 and $1000) and I was quite pleased to see that it was marked at R12,000. It has better components than the Mamba, so I thought I could maybe stretch the extra 3 grand. Surprise, surprise, the sales guy said I could have it for R9500. So I bought it. Did I do the right thing? Is this the same bike as the US version? Haven't ridden it much yet as I bought it this morning, bought it looks absolutely like I got a great deal.....

  24. Future planning? http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/schurter-to-race-tours-de-suisse-and-romandie-with-orica-greenedge "Cross country mountain bike world champ gets green light from UCI to race road After winning three cross country world championships and three World Cup titles in only five years, Nino Schurter (Scott Odlo) is temporarily looking for a new challenge in 2014. The Swiss mountain bike star will race part-time on the road for Orica-GreenEdge and will compete in both the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse.............................. ........................................"To do the Tour de Suisse once in my life has always been my dream," said Schurter. "My heart is in mountain biking and will remain there. But if I ever wanted to ride a big stage race on the road, the 2014 season offers the perfect slot for it. "To defend my world championship title is still going to be my main goal for 2014, and furthermore I will 100% concentrate on mountain biking to hopefully add a missing Olympic [gold] medal to my collection. I believe that on my way there, I can gain a lot of knowledge and experience from racing on the road with Orica-GreenEdge this year." Scott-Odlo Team Manager Thomas Frischknecht said, "Nino has always been looking for new ways to develop his skills. He is searching for improvements all the time - the opposite of a copy-paste athlete. That's him and that's why he is so good at what he is doing. I respect him for these characteristics and therefore support him with this idea. I'm pretty sure this experience will only make him stronger."
