Was thinking this as I went for my first training session on Saturday morning up the Pumphouse in Gordon's Bay. Seems a bit like Westlake side of Ou Kaaps but three times as long and a much better view. Is certainly much harder than Hells and any hills I've done in Fun Rides.

So what is the meanest hill that you train on or have ridden in SA ?

being "blessed" with living in the West Rand I have lots to choose from, excluding Krugersdorp hill which is fine if you settle into a rhythm.... I'd say, in no particular order..

Doreen ave;

Golf club terrace, (but I frequently lose my bottle and turn right at Clover Big%20smile)

Wilgerood and finally William Nicoll past Flora Clinic..

and I still can;t climb for ****...Big%20smile

FanD I wish I'd started doing it long time ago. Makes a nice training ride from my place and back (40km). You certainly feel every extra kg that you have with you ( and I have more than a few extra). The thing about it is there is no break, the hill just goes on and on with no real relief from beginning to end. And the initial km is the worst !

Going to make a point of doing it once a week from now on, cause every race I do I get dropped on the steeper hills!!!Angry

Jip, Krugerdorp is full of them.

Wonder how Krugersdorp Hill is going to change (car volume wise) with the new Casino being opened there?

Had the same dis a few months ago.

Hans Stijdom PTA East - 3 km on 3.x%

Hills near my home (all in Silverton area):

5% for 600 meters

7.5% for 450 meters

9% for 400 meters

then a 4.5% for 1.5 km.

That is some of the hills I can ride...

Around our area

Kullenbach Drive - Feels like you're doing the Paris Roubaix on a huge uphill

Linksfield Rd. - 9.9% (can't remember the distance though.  Usually to stuffed to care)

A bit further afield:

Sugarbush Ridge

Commaro Rd.

Voortrekker rd from Ring Road to the Silver Ball (Alberton)

I grew up in Krugersdorp, used to do Sterkfontein almost every afternoon back in the 80's. Krugersdorp Hill is long but not that steep, and I think the toughest hill in that region has got to be Hekpoort.
