A Japanese fishing vessel that was swept away in the 2011 tsunami is now adrift off the coast of Alaska.

 

The US Coast Guard has dispatched a Cutter to go sink it with 25mm Cannon fire. I sure hope someone on board takes pics.

 

Why sink the ship? If it survived a tsunami intact and then floated for a full year while drifiting all the way across the ocean, surely it must be seaworthy? Or is this just the US wanting to blow stuff up again!

Probably no money from the owners for salvage. And it's floating around, un-manned, no running lights, and is posing a risk to navigation now that has entered shipping lanes off Alaska.
