Be careful with the Ignitors, I found them to be an aweful tyre, it didn't seem to do anything very well.

I already went through a pair a few years back and I loved them. the only problem I found was that the knobby design caused a vibration at a certain speed.

Has anybody tried the Maxxis Ikon?

Website put them at 520g.

Anyone tried the Maxxis Aspen? I have two lying at home and was wondering if it was worth popping them on...

All the reports Ive heard are - no grip and cut like wet paper bags...

I love them on my 26". I still use tubes and manage to run them at 2.3 rear and 2.1 front. Even at a rain soaked Honda Trophy last year they worked great. Very fast rolling as they have almost no tread.

Thats the part I was worried about!

Thanks for your input - I'll pop one on this weekend and see...

Hi all you 29er freaks, my mate has just put some Geax AKA TNT tyres(back) and then Bontranger Jones XR on the front, for the Sani2C. When Ive just looked at them they don't look full UST, thin looking sidewall on both makes of tyres.

Any ideas folks? I would rather him try change them before he rides on them.

Wayland and his partner won the J2C on Geax 29r tyres.

Think they ran an AKA at the back.

If I see him the evening I'll ask what was upfront.

Thanks, Are they Full UST though?

Mapara - those tyres are featured on the back of the Ride mag along with others like the Maxxis Ikon and Aspen, also light tyres for 29" and 26".

Think an Ikon on the back and Aspen on the front would be a good combo.

The Ikon will also be available in the Exxo version ie. sidewall cut resistance.

Tweeted Brandon from Probike the other day and unfortunately they are only coming to SA in August in limited amounts and prices are going up or something as well.

will give feedback on the aspen/ikon 29er. the guys that have the aspens on their 26ers love them

If he doesn't answer, you could try Waylon.

I believe in reliability and cornering grip above a couple of grams. Would rather have a blast on the ST, no sidewall issues at an almost imperceivable weight penalty. There is no such thing as an ultra lightweight and strong tire....

I think that they were running Geax Saguaro's upfront.

"“Even our equipment was on the conservative side. We chose more robust tyres (Geax Suguaro on the front and Geax AKA on the rear – 2.2-inches wide), which were maybe half a kilogram heavier in total than those of some of our rivals, but we never had one puncture. And in the end, the final race result was decided by a tyre problem.

Eraser do you run them front and rear?

Yes I do but I have a dry weather wheelset on which I run these and a wet weather set that has Race Kings front and rear so it depends on the terrain.

On the question of pressures because of the larger volume I've reduced mine by about 10% from my 26er. Front 1.7 and rear 1.9 Bar. Pressures however are a very subjective thing and rider weight, suspension/sag setup and rider style/terrain will influence this.

My advice is to drop the pressure incrementally until you're comfortable as I firmly believe most 29er riders have their pressures much harder than is necessary.

I've also just put a Jones XR on the front and still riding specialized fasttrack at the back. Both light with thin side walls but being a light weight I an get by on it. Considered the Geax AKA which is a similar config to the small block 8 - great reviews but it's a bit heavy for my liking (about 750g)
