Hi

I would like to introduce ourselves. We are Customized Cycling Solutions, the

new name in the world of cycling. We are a full workshop and bike set-up centre.

We cater for all your cycling needs (Bikes, Parts, Servicing, Set-Up, etc). We

are based in the Fourways, Johannesburg area.

Part of our customer base is made up of CEO's and pro athletes.

Cycling is not the sport for everyone... it is for the chosen few and thus the

service providers in the industry need to have the goals of the client at heart

when building a relationship. We are passionate about superior service and will

not settle for the conveyor belt servicing mentality.

We do not tolerate the "run of the mill" services as experienced by most cycling

stores that are happy to use generic consumables on your bike.

The least you should expect is that the store will not take advantage of the

trust you instill in them.

At Customized Cycling Solutions,as a trained athlete will feel and see the

difference from the very first service.

We ensure you that only the best quality products are used for the maintenance

of your bike and will gladly assess your bike for any future expenses, to keep

an eye on parts that may cause undue wear and tear. We will also help you

upgrade parts that will enhance your power, speed and comfort.

What we included in our services:

Customized Cycling Solutions General Service

We ensure that all your derailleur (Front and Rear) is serviced and set

correctly, but we also explore the gear housings, all fittings and cables to

ensure there is no impedance causing sub-optimal shifting. The Brakes are given

even more care, we ensure that all your brakes (Front and Rear) are serviced and

the settings are correct, the brake pad condition is investigated for optimal

braking performance and once again we also explore the gear housings, all

fittings and cables to ensure you have the most braking power for that system.

To ensure that no Power is wasted the bottom bracket and Jockey wheels are

completely stripped and serviced providing the lowest rolling resistance

possible. The Chain wear is checked so no premature wear occurs on the cassette,

jockey wheels and chain rings. Power is nothing with out control, so for silky

smooth handling the headset is completely stripped down and serviced.

A Customized Cycling Solutions Comprehensive Service (Includes a Customized

Cycling Solutions General Service)

To get the maximum performance out of your bike, we would recommend the

Customized Cycling Solutions Comprehensive Service, where we focus on your

entire wheelset. The Front Hub, Rear Hub and Free-Hub are stripped to there

basic parts, checked, serviced and reassembled. The (Front and Rear) Rim is

checked for lateral and horizontal movement and corrected if there is any undue

movement. The Tyres are checked for any points that could lead to future

failures (a.k.a punctures).

Ceramic Bearings

We are also specialists in Ceramic Bearings and Ceramic Bearing

Services. Ceramic Bearings are highly precise pieces of equipment. The service

provider must ensure that the correct processes and specialized lubricants are

used, if incorrectly serviced the benefits of these bearings are lost.

As you can see...a service at Customized Cycling Solutions is hardly comparable

with most store services. It really all boils down to a genuine interest in the

sport and the client and having a personal relationship with them to ensure that

their needs are met.

For Added Convenience we can collect and deliver your bike in and around

Johannesburg , for a minimal fee.

Who actually works on the bikes - and what is their workshop experience?

In my experience you can have Lance Armstrong mechanic 'supervising' the workshop and stuff still gets stripped and comes loose because you have the Three Stooges turning the spanners.

+1 - it's just as easy to strip a Shimano Tiagra RD as it is to strip a SRAM Red RD.... actually, the Tiagra would probably handle the abuse.

My 2c, coz I cannot see this being any different than a 'normal' bike shop other than it solely being a 'bicycle maintenance' workshop and not a retail store added.

"Part of our customer base is made up of CEO's and pro athletes."

Your point??? If anything your prices are then high as the CEO wouldn't care to much about a few hundred rand difference from one service shop to another.

Your services are also the same as my local bike shop btw.

Came across this old thread and thought it worthwhile to comment.

I have had nothing but awesome service from Richard at Customized Cycling Solutions. He is an elite rider himself and really knows what works and what doesn't based on his experience.

They have assisted me afterhours as well as on Sundays and on several occassions I have gone past to pick up some tubes and other consumables when Richard is not there and the guys simply write it down and emailed me the invoice later in the week. He has also offerd me his carbon deep section wheels to try for a week without any buying pressure.

My rule is that the bikeshop guy needs to know more than me and Richard way outstrips any knowledge I might acquire in the next decenia or two. Even better is that he actually talks you through the process so you always come out more knowledgeable than you went.

Grinds, squaks and other niggles on the bike (both road and MTB) that other reputable shops could not find, Richard made them all go away.

This thread was created more than 2 years prior to me joining the Hub. Well, I can also vouch for Richard at CCS. He got me up and running with my first set of kit and as Ossie says, always explains his process and method of doing things. I have learned a ton just from hanging around, watching and chatting.
