Why do we have to put up with moderators that just pop up on a whim with warnings on a subject? Everytime you want to reply or make a statement you have to wonder whether big brother is going to rap you over the knuckles.

We all are grown ups around here each with his or her opinion regarding a topic on the hub.

Certain moderators need to get of their high horses and allow a topic to run its course.

Should things get out of hand then and only then should the moderator intervene with supporting reasoning.

This is a public forum and not some secretive club where you need to be sure you are not leaking state secrets.

I agree fully

A. Mods should post a reason for a moderation, or at least pm the person being moderated with an explanation.

B. The forum is big enough now to have a "Dispute Resolution Centre" - ping Admin?

Anyway, all true mtbikers are actually still kids, regardless of age. We just wanna play! :D

Discrimination against Roadies, Trackkies, Downhillers, TimeTrialers or SingleSpeeders will not be accepted! Where are those moderators when you need them?

Feel free to flame runners, pedestrians or motorist!

History, on The Hub at least, has shown that we are not all 'grown up'. We've tried the self moderation route and it didn't work.

It seems in most peoples nature to like to push the boundaries particularly when able to hide behind a pseudonym online. This is not a phenomenon unique to The Hub. There are boundaries, we have a set of rules and guidelines within which all members agreed to conduct themselves when registering. People often need some guidance or just a reminder in terms of where those boundaries are or might have been crossed.

It's not a secretive underground club scheming the demise of every interesting topic. Personally I'd like to never have to moderate, but there are times when the boundaries are crossed (either knowingly or unknowingly) and some moderation is required to keep things from getting completely out of hand.

Moderation is not an easy task. Boundaries are not always clear and it often requires you to make unpopular decisions. In almost all cases these are discussed amongst the Mods and decisions made as a team, while the actions might be carried out by only one member of the team.

I believe that since appointing the moderation team the quality of discussion and general vibe on The Hub has greatly improved.

If you think otherwise I'd like to hear why and how we could improve. PM me.

I've been moderated before and it didn't bother me a bit. Also my wife moderates me daily.

Seriously though I think you have to have moderation on the hub. If there are issues maybe they should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

It is quite awesome, though, isn't it. Oh, and why would they lock it? Slow-one helps moderate it, and weedmod is a valued contributor to it's awesomeness...

But keep the redheads coming!

I have been on the receiving end of a moderator's unnecessary comments, an attack if one so wishes.

This went to pm. and became rather petty and childish off line, this moderator to me does not exist anymore.

The rest are doing a great job as far as I am concerned, we need moderation otherwise things could run absolutely haywire.

I do feel at times over moderation sometimes happens (the recent Sisulu thread) but I also have to bear in mind, that someone else might have found it offensive and it's accepted that if this is the case, then all is fair in love and war.
