There's no real technical merit being flouted. Everything else is nothing more than simplistic thinking that just because it's here, it's gonna invade all aspects of mountainbiking. If that's the case, then Crow's made the best case for the 29" DH bike: marketeering, technical rationale be damned (which is most of what the pro29's are fapping on about)

grb285: you the kinda person i wanna take into trenchwarfare :P

arb thought to the DH technical gurus: would Fox's USD fork work better on a 29er DH sled in terms of mass balance and overall weight?

So let me answer the Thread question: there are no 29'er DH bikes yet cause

JD Swanguen has been testing the Intense 2951 and racing it in some races in the States.

I just want to say something about Mountain Biking Godfathers.

If Gary Fisher is the Godfather of xc then Jeff Steber is the Godfather of DH. Did you know it was his idea to put rock climbing sticky rubber on the bottom of Shaun Palmers Vans?

Some of you haters might think this is wack, but we are just playing around with it, seeing where it is better. Just wait till we get on the '29er DH Tandem' craze and the '29er Fixie' craze.....sick

God Help us. Did I mention to you guys that I'm going to Morzine next week?

haha, you must be a real Chuck Norris then having only discovered riser bars a couple weeks back!

I see it this way: girls like real men who do big jumps, ride fast lines and wear baggy shorts. They like big bikes too. We use the armour so we can protect our faces so when we get home from riding, we can perform properly ;) When you lycra boys pull off your bum cream covered ball crushers, the girls are really impressed with what they see I'm sure!

SSSSSHHHHHHH! Don't tell them dude. Next thing we'll have to share our mountains with the bum cream brigade ;)

THE EPIC!! bwhahahahahahaaaa, this day just keeps getting better and better. I heard they sea freighted in extra barrels of bum cream for that one.

We're talking DH here. NOT the Epic. Mr.G, you know what downhill is right? 'cos Pastrana's into MX. DH clothing isnt MX clothing. It's purpose made. Like I said earlier, it will be the best day to see the lycra boys all creamed up at the top of the downhill. I'd bet by the time the first guy falls and rips his bib, smashes his face into a tree and grazes his capped knees off, the rest of the clan will sneak off down the fire road whistling that 'big boys DO cry' tune.

What's up with you and your fascination with bum cream?

So hows this, in 2011, the year of the 29er, 5 years into the fad.

The overall Downhill World Cup will be won on a 26er, the Downhill World Champs will be won on a 26er.

The overall XC World Cup will be won on a 26er, Chances are the World Champs too.

And u know what, next week is the World Marathon Champs, where I'm told 29ers are the bomb. But you know what, I hear Julien Absalon is going, so they will be won on a 26er too. I cant wait to see how he throws down those 360 life/Specialized boys, its gonna be hilarious.

Kina tells u sommin, no?

haha, sorry guys I'm just having one of those crazy days. No offence, I'm just taking the piss. It's just that thought of a grown man creaming his ass really makes the hairs on my neck stand up. When I have a son, I'll know he's also a downhiller because he will reject having his bum creamed. He'll take his nappy rash like a bloody man.

I think it was Nigel who said something about 3 inches in the wrong place. That's how I feel as well. A tyre that rolls over roots better isnt going to help with DH. Rather a fork that sucks 3 inches more up. Or rather jump the roots, slam 8 inches of travel through the rock garden, and when you fall, you can actually get up without crying. No girl wants to see a guy in a bib, all bloodied up, crying, with half an ice cream tub on his head, only to get a frikken cream stain on her seat when she drives you down to the emergency unit.

Regarding 29er DH bikes, I just don't see it happening overnight. I love my 26 inch bike. It's perfect to me. The only improvement I'd make to any of this is the rider ;)

Oi! Dont you be ruining my internethissyfitfightwithacompletestrangeraboutasubjectwehaveabsolutelynocontrolover with your apologies. Not cool man.

Take it on the chin like the oh poor noo noo I can't possibly get on my bike without protection, suspension, a ski lift, full face helmet, balloon tyres, slack angles, a specially prepared course, cushions on all the trees/rocks, gravity on my side - oh I could never survive more than 6 mins on a bicycle "man" that you are.

Actually you'd probably appreciate bum cream if you spent as much time on you bike as you do nictating.

I stand by my statement that a 29er DH bike will win gold at one of the rounds of the 2012 DH world cup. If not I'll head over to Cape Town and you can scare the bejeebers out of me on your DH courses. If it does you need to head up to Jhb so I can make you puke a lung in the thin air on some of our XCO courses with only a styrefoam cap and bum cream as protection. Deal?

Bring on the public holiday - I'll be riding my road bike.

DOH!

Was Dakar won in a WRC car? Will world MX champs be won on a superbike?

Another series of pointless points.

Actually I do think he has a point - if it only a point that he'll regret making in a few months/years.

Kulhavy won an XCO on a 29er - dual susser no less! If you has asked me (a complete 29ophile) in 2010 if that was probable I would have laughed at you. A 29er winning an XCO event? Don't be silly.

All bets are off in the 26 versus 29er debate I reckon.
