I was previously insured by Sanlam and they covered the loss and payment of my stolen bike swiftly and professionally, they also covered accident damage after a nasty spill. Doing the Discovery route I'm now with insure and they recently sorted out my accident claim within 36 hours.

Insure your bike at the correct value deal with reputable companies

Good advice - stay away from Alexander Forbes or any policy underwritten by Gaurd Risk

They appointed the new ombudsman and fired the last one as he was to fair!!

Best short term insurance tip you or any broker will ever get if you want a sporting chance at fair cover.

I have my policies through the Brokerage and the insurer is echelon. Pay about R100 for my AnthemX29 and have free cover for bikes up to R15k. Haven't had to claim but I asked about the cover and it really amounts to "as long as I'm not negligent or racing for money I'm covered".

Hopefully I won't have to post about claim experiences.

To give you an idea on other rates, Total insurance with them is about R1400 for 250k household, 3 bikes at average of 20k, laptop, camera, 2011 320i, and R1M thatch house.

Again, hopefully I don't have to post about a claim...

Not sure when they appointed this new guy but I've been very happy at Alexander Forbes never had any problems with claims and there's been a few. Just two weeks ago I discovered my S3 helmet is cracked I called them and they paid me out the FULL amount for the S3 and I must mention the helmet was not even specified on my insurance only my bike. I pay R253.32 for full comprehensive including racing, bike insured for R74999.

Unless something change in the past week Alexander Forbes is NO.1

In my opinion Miway are in the wrong. They should have clarified the details of purchase and serial numbers from him right from the start before they elected to insure him for such an expensive bike. After all he has been paying them in good faith up to the time of the loss. To now retrospectively try and force him to supply these details is nonsense.

If their requirements stipulated that the insured must supply serial numbers , proof of purchase etc. they should have obtained this info from him before deciding to take his money.

As the insured parry, you are expected to act in an HONEST manner...if not, all bets are off.

My 2011 Cannondale Carbon Flash 2 29er was stolen on 3rd Jan from my garage, while I was at home during the day. I have complied with every condition off my Cyclesure policy, even down to the size and type of chain/cable to be used. After 2 weeks of backwards and forwards with Cyclesure, today I received notice that they will not cover because there was no sign of forced entry into the garage. I have all the supporting documentation usually necessary, receipts, serial numbers, photographs. Police have opened a case of theft/housebreaking and have assigned a detective to the case. The CSI dude showed me where the thieves got over the wall and accessed the garage side door. Feels like I'm getting screwed on a technicality.

Take them to the Ombudsman for S/T Insurance and/or the FAIS Ombudsman

Have not read the whole thread, but am with Discovery insure.

Currently pay R173.76 for R39 500 worth of bikes. 1 Venge and 1 old RC6000, I am not sure if this is high or not.

But last week I found a crack in my frame after argus and they paid me out in cash as there was no TCR frames available in my size and the closest was a Propel. So I took the cash and got a Venge Pro frame.

Discovery paid out within 24 hours of start of claim. Really amazing service.

My first insurance claiming process and it was effortless and am happy I insured with discovery insure.

Its time to re-evaluate my bikes replacement value. HOw does this work though, do i just take it to any LBS have them give me replacement value and bobs my uncle? some shops only sell specific brands so does it need to be a lbs that stocks my bike brand?

Ive heard some horrendous efforts by myway to avoid paying. There classic move is the proof of purchase. So if ur insured through them. Cancel it soon.

Ive just had a claim for 75k bike through RENASA. 100% satisfied. Done in about 10 days. No questions. They send an assesor who inspected the bike. Done. New bike delivered.
