Not to forget the superpowered BMC that includes Gilbert, Evans, Tejay van G, etc.

Saxo is definitely looking vulnerable.

Media reports say that Rijs is pretty chilled about the future. Not worried.

Wonder how Wiggins is doing.

4th in TdF 2009. Many raves about him since.

So, so, so, close for the Red Jersey in 2011 and now out of contention.

A 3rd would be good. 1st time podium in a Grand Tour.

Hmm, I think there is the problem with Rijs right off the bat!.

Wiggins is a class act, but there are so many class acts around these days its getting crowded at the top. I think he will bounce back, 3rd as you say is still very, very good.

So, Cobo fought off two more attacks by Froome today.

Two stages left. One lumpy. One short 96 ER.

Man those attacks was huge!!first one he went out off the bunch like a missile and Cobo can be glad he had he's wheel because at that speed it gave him one moer of a slip!

Second attack he made that aother rider who sat Cobo's wheel look a bit silly.

With attacking like that in the mountains and hes TT ability..Froome will still go far!!!

What a revelation for Sky the Vroem-Vroem is.

Now they will have two options for Grand Tours for the future.

Plus Cav for the sprints. Is this deal confirmed yet?

Not if he sacrifices his grand tour ambitions for the one who would have won the TDF had he not crashed?

Not as yet, but he has been hanging out and training with David Millar if that implies anything. I think he is just being a gent to HTC and the team, and will only say where he is going once the 'season' is over.

btw David Millar became a dad yesterday, mother & child well.

So it looks like the Red jersey is pretty solid on Cobo's back, a great result for the Spanish rider who was really one of the underdogs going into the event. He also holds the combination white jersey so a good result for him.

Moncoutie has tied up the Polka jersey, so only the Green jersey is undecided, will it be Rodriguez or Mollema.?

Second overall for Froome is probably a lot better than he expected going into the event, so I think he can really celebrate his result, had things been differant earlier he may have won, but he still walks away with something very few achieve, a stage win and a second overall in a grand tour.

Wiggins looks set for third, Mollema is unlikely to pull back 24 seconds so SKY had a good race as well.

Its been a super, super Vuelta this year, full of surprises and it kept me racing to the TV every afternoon. Fantastic event. Bravo.!

So Cobo holds on to the red jersey and wins the Vuelta, must be the biggest day of his career by far.

A fairly unknown rider is Cobo, I sort of looked around but not too much on his history except that his best finish was a 10th place in the Vuelta a few years ago......and that he suffers from depression.

Peter Sagan outsprinted the pack to another win in Madrid. At just 21 he is already a prolific winner of stages in grand tours, there's no stopping this kid, once he opens the throttles its all over bar the shouting, I reckon he is the next Boonen, Cavendish, Petacchi......!

Your are right Grumpy, I think barring injury this guy looks like he has a future ahead of him. Plus he has the benefit of although he is young he is already on a powerhouse of a team.

I've never really rated Cav as an out and out sprinter. He's always ridden for a team specifically set up for him, that is he has a 8 man lead-out (which does their job superbly). No other team has specialised to that extent only for one sprinter.

I'll be interesting to see how he does in a team (Sky) that has other targets as well, e.g. grand tour wins.

Very true. Personally I also think he is overrated and obnoxious as well.

Sagan on the other hand appears intensely media shy, which tosses the usual argument out the window that you have to be an arrogant git to be a good sprinter.

There is something to be said about the Leopard-Trek duo on 2nd and 3rd In TdF as well as the case with Sky.

Tactics gone wrong?

Not reading the key moment when Froome had woema and had to accompany Wiggins when the road when skyward.

Hmmm....
