He has been quite gracious in his defeat ... something about having found his limits. And he has handled the press / media. very well.

I enjoyed his interview the other day when the rude female journo suggested he was red in the face he said the only thing not red was his jersey. He is handling himself with decorum.

this is what his competitors thought..

“Purito” ..“To tell the truth, I didn’t expect this today, but when I saw how Saxo Bank was riding today, I knew they were up to something,” a gracious Rodríguez said. “What Alberto did today was something spectacular. Sure, I will be sad about it later, but today we lived something for the history books. And he did it dos cojones.”

Froom...

“It’s been interesting watching Contador attack during this Vuelta,” Froome told VeloNews during Tuesday’s rest day. “He makes intense attacks, these short, intense bursts. No one else races like him.”

no sour grapes from his peers..

Close finish today, Sky nearly, nearly got the stage for Swift, but Bennati just nipped in by a tyre width, another really fast day today, did you see the speed over the final 10kms - between 69-71kms per hour  - as Matthew Keenan says with that lilting accent of his - "Not for the faint hearted"

Not a Fan at all but bliksem that Conto can race!!Have always rated him as one of the best but have always also doubted he's ability to attack long range because he is so potent over sort bursts!!Man has he proved me wrong!

Really wanted Rodriquez to win this one but the best man will win it after that stage for sure!!Would love to see the whole stage because from what I read it was one hell off a stage from start to finish!!!!

Rodriquez I think was seriously let down by he's team on the day and a stronger team like Sky at the Tour would have made a big difference to the time he lost. Especially loosing 2nd to Valverde happened mostly because he had to do so much work himself that he ended up cracking.

Also Great seeing Valverde riding well, have always been a fan!!

Froomedog well yes most people would have known that it was never going to be a fair fight, you can only go and look at the last 10 years of tour results and it will show you he is actually doing very good by holding on to 4th.He has now done Tour de Romandie, Dauphine, Tour de France, Olympics and the Vuelta in a little more the 3 months.

As for TheHub……man I would love if there was a ban on any doping related commends when it comes to racing discussions…..one can only dream!! :D

What a great tour this was, for me the best of the year, it had everything you could ask for and for me, 'Berto was a worthy winner.

It most certainly wasn't an easy win for him and I think he was pushed to his limits by both Valverde and Rodriguez, who, it has to be said, are in spectacular shape, but, he animated the race from the start, he rode like a tour leader, he attacked and attacked, he went on solo ventures, he chased when he could, he got irritated, he cried on TV, and best of all, he fought like a demon for his spot right up to the last meter. That, for me makes him a worthy winner of the fleece, and he can comfortably tick another grand tour off as "Job well done."

Bravo 'Berto,...Welcome back.!

Already the first Spaniard to win all three major Tours, Contador is one of only five riders in cycling history to pull off the so-called Grand Slam.

He is preceded by Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault of France, Eddy Merckx of Belgium and Felice Gimondiof Italy. Only 10 riders, including Contador, have won five Grand Tours or more.
