32GI

Yes, you are so right. For higher intensities like MTB, it can even lasts less than a hour. The higher the intensity the less time it lasts. It obviously differs from athlete to athlete, because the amount of stores in the liver and muscles can be increased by exercise and fitness. The body utilises stores from not only leg muscles, but other body muscles as well, that's why good cross training can increase overall body stores.

At intensity levels >75 % VO2 max, the energy burned from fat is negligible. You therefore need sources of glucose to support those high intensity levels of effort.

I agree with Topwine on this, and this is where we come in :-)

If you take in the high GI sugars with 32Gi as your base drink, you will notice an incredible taper, it wont drop you so suddenly, and the pendulum effect will really be brought under more control, so yes your muscles will get their feed, but you will overall not feel like a roller coaster. Topwine you should try it, think you will be amazed ;-)

@MDW: I just want to state a fact or two. Firstly with regards to the Dr Lim quote; as far as I know glycogen is the only storage form of glucose.

Secondly I think a lot of confusion and misconception over this topic comes from the fact that people think that energy only comes from fat or carbohydrate; when in reality it is a combination of the 2 substrates with fat utilisation being less important at a higher respiratory quotient. dont know if that will help your argument

Agree 1000% with you, what we are saying is, spare your glycogen and try to ride within yourself as long as possible by maximising your fat store tapping, but when you cannot ie: bunch attack etc, take in the sugar, however using our drink as the base carbo drink, will suprise you totally, as it will really slow down that pendulum effect. The great thing is it does benefit riders on both fronts. We have known this all along, we are just trying to encourage the community to not overdo it on the sugar, it seems that the common belief is take in as much as you can whenever you can, and it will give you all you need. Most cyclists today, are actually battling the weight issues, because yes its long hours of training, but they fail to understand the requirements of the body which becomes disheartening. A little off the topic I know, but there is a lot of education needed out their. We are trying our best to educate people not by "sugar coating" our product, but by explaining to the people out there how they should be eating and using energy products without getting the negative effects of it. I went on a 3.5 hour training ride a few weeks ago with a club, they stopped half way and a high percentage of the bunch came out of the garage with cokes, sweets, chocolates etc, not to mention the meal at Mugg and Bean right after. They took in way more calories than were required on that ride during it, never mind after it, for me it was a sad site.

I use 32Gi as my base drink. In short distance events I've managed to get by only using 1 gel near the end. With the Jacaranda (94km) I was in the saddle for 05h25 (a very long time  ) I used 3 gels. Last year I used way too many gels. But I'm learning.

I'm still trying to lose weight. Last year when I was doing loads of cycling events etc my weight loss stalled. If I didn't partake in any events over a few weeks the weight loss would pick up. The consensus was that I was nullifying my weight loss while cycling in the various races by drinking energy drinks and using way too many gels.

This year I am continuing to lose the weight and approach the days that I hit the road and cycle totally differently. The best thing is I finished Jacaranda this year and last year I pulled out on Hekpoort. So for now I'm feeling confident about the 94.7 even though I expect to be in the saddle for a verrrrry long time  32GI will be in my bottles :D

I don't train with anything else but water, follow the Weigh Less plan and stick to as Low GI as I can.

I just bought a book called 'racing weight' by matt fitzgerald, really good read for all endurance athletes, about R146 from exclusive books.

Should help with maintaining a lean body composition while training.

Is it suitable for diabetics?

I am a Type 1 Diabetic (Insulin). Works fantastic for me. On daily commute I use one scoop (+-15g Carbs) for the one hour ride (2 units fast acting insulin). Over weekends I use 2 scoops for 2 hour ride. On Marathon MTB rides: 2 scoops in bottle for first 2 hours. I carry 2 scoops in container and stop after 2 hours to mix a new batch. Very easy to manage my blood sugar levels.

I also purchased a tub yesterday but my motivation was that it is suitable for diabetics- so for my somewhat increased sugar level it should be perfect. Must however stil give it a go and see if it works.

Sales talk is that 7 out of the top 10 tri-athletes use this product, if its true I do not know!

I use 32gi. For training & racing.

And pop a Hammer gel 45-60 minutes before the end of a race.

It is so affordable. Which is really cool... :)

Thanks, but the explanation brings two more questions:

1) If 86% of the energy comes from the 3 days before, and you only replace 14% (2 servings) of the energy that you burn with the 32 GI, then theoretically I should be able to finish at least 86% of the 94.7 on water only...? I find it hard to believe that the mere presence of 32GI in my body gives me the ability to break down fat so much faster and more efficiently.

2) If I continually only replace 7% - 14% of the energy that I burn during training / racing, how sustainable is this from a weight point of view? That means that after the 94.7 I have to eat a king steer burger, large chips and a 1 litre coke just to keep my weight? If I have to do this after every event, I'm gonna start buying famous brands shares.

Anyway, not trying to be difficult, just still looking for a sound explanation...

I'm a Mining Engineer, so the same goes here . Spent my efforts in begining of season(Training and races) on one drum 32Gi and when that was done on 1 drum Pepto pro to see what the big who ha ! was about .....sorry to say the best I have ever felt was doing pasta a day before the race, and the morning of the race ,then water only during the race backed up by Bananas (5 of them) on 100km race ,nothing come's close ,as for the maths and the claim that 7/10 top atheletes are using it .mmmmmm........POWERBAND!

No it doesnt ... it taste horrible! That has got to be one of the sweetest tasting drinks ever, which I cant clearly understand because it is supposed to be this low sugar low GI story.

I have tried all the flavors and if you are used to having 6 spoons of sugar with your coffee, yea then you might like it but I dont drink sugar!

Cytomax - Fresh Apple - Best tasting ever!

I havnt tried Cytomax yet....the reason I like it is cause it actually don't taste as dead as some things I had before, I enjoy it tho, I also starting to get used to the orange, I use 2 scoops with 750ml water tho...not with 500ml like some people cause then it will be way to sweet

Works 150% for me.

Get your diet right first before trying this.

Low GI food always with minimal sugars.

Low GI meal before the event is essential as well as not taking anything in that will spike your sugar levels before the event.

I have done several races at pace while only using this, no snacks or anything else and I have had more than enough energy.

There is enough proof out there that this stuff works, If it doesnt work for you, then you are doing something wrong.

Great comment, Woofie.

And you are in League driving hard performances out of your racing engine...

I am a diabetic and finally there is a product that does not play with my sugar levels, this energy drink really works amazingly. I saw a post that mentioned they launched last week, anyone know where they are stocking at the moment?
