Vanhoenaker the only rider close to a 40 kmh avg on the bike

He did a 39.13kmh avg

Was it windy there today?

No, perfect conditions. A small headwind on the way back, but nothing to write home about.

Did everyone enjoy the race?

Swim 00:50

Bike 03:30

Run 02:06

Transition 00:10

Total time:- 06h36

Ended up with

Swim 45

Bike 3h13

Run 2h13

Transition 13

Total 6h24

Swim was flat and even for someone with my lack of ability was relatively easy. All the comments on the forum scared me on the bike and when I turned in 1h40 I got nervous and took it too easy on the way back. Conditions for the bike were perfect, cool with very little wind. Run was another story and it was baking! Held back too much again and ended up running 25min last 5km which was too late.

All in all brilliantly organized and great fun. Next year sub 6!

So time to put your neck on the block. Post your goal splits. Bragging rights to the Hubber who gets closest.

Perfect day. A bit warm and humid on the run and the sun ATE us through the clouds!

My day had some serious mixed emotions

S - 33:13

B - 2:58:08

R - 2:15:10

T1 - 28:18

T2: 2:59

Total - 6:17:48

To put the T1 time into perspective, 3k's into my ride I realized my timing chip was gone! Needless to say I freaked out and turned around back to transition to collect a new chip and carry on. That cost me probably 25mins plus quite a bit of extra energy to get back, run around transition like a headless chicken looking for my bag, then run down to the swim start to get a new chip and run back up that transition hill to get back to my bike. Ended up pushing a bit too hard on the ride to make up for it and BLEW on the run.

That being said, if I discount the f$#% up of losing my chip, I bettered last year's time albeit by a few minutes.

Things I learnt

1. Even your c..k needs antichafe cream.

2. Its possible to ride the bike leg without a timing chip and to get a new one when you get back to transition

3. A great race strategy (learnt it on the second lap of the run) is to run from waterpoint to waterpoint. Much easier chunks to manage.

4. Full Ironman is for the crazy and the unloved

All in all, it was a great event and I had an absolute jol. Will definitely be back next year and Ill place a ton of emphasis on my running.

I'm really going to have to learn how to swim!!!

Swim: 38'48"

Bike: 2h41'35"

Run: 1h41'31"

T1: 3'54"

T2: 2'36"

Total: 5h08'24"

I had very low expectations for my first one, as i had some setbacks in my training.

So i only did a 7:28:19, which as it happened was 6seconds slower than my wife.

Next year, i should be able to knock an hour off.

My Plan was:

Swim 0.37

T1 0.06

Bike 3.00

T2 0.03

Run 1.49

Total: 5.35

Actual was:

Swim 0.39

T1 0.07

Bike 2.54

T2 0.04

Run 1.51

Total: 5.36

Do I win the prize for accurate forecasts?

I found the swim a bit harder than expected (maybe a current), bike was great, and teh run was cooking!!!!

great even, as expected.

Well organized, just 2 things I think need work. The male change tent was way too small, most guys had to change outside and it was all a bit chaotic. Secondly, having to pay R250 for a ticket for my wife to attend the awards ceremony is crazy. Our supporters put in a lot of sacrifice both during training and the race. It wouldn't be right for them not to attend but to pay R250 for an average dinner and cash bar is nuts. My view is that each athlete should be allowed to bring a better half along at no cost, without their help the athletes wouldn't even be there.
