Top end groupset - what to buy?

So I posted a thread on "Top end disc brakes - what to buy?". I'm building a new 2011 Scalpel Ultimate with XLR Lefty... I am not weight worried but want good fairly top end stuff on the frame to take advantage of the weight... I don't want unreliable or fussy components...

 

I've narrowed the brakes for the Scaplel Ultimate build down to:

Hope X2 (Good value)

XTR (Reliable)

R1 or M8's (Bit pricey)

 

Now I need to decide on groupset....choices would be:

XTR?

X9? (if I want to skimp)

XO? or

XX? (is it that much better than XO?)

 

Seems XTR is pretty good for the money and so is XO...I've always liked XTR's presision and touch... I want 10speed and will go SRAM gripshift XO when the 10 speed come out... What would you say is a fair spec to do justice to the Sculptimate??

If I go XTR brakes I'd more than likely go XTR Group....

If you want the ultimate lightweight cranks that are oh so sweet and sexy and bloody light get Clavicula cranks! Failing that get XTR.

Well lets just say for the price I'm getting the frame and fork for I can build one as spec with XX for R40k less than one in the shop...

Perhaps look at costs of the replacement parts ?

If you like gripshift maybe stick with sram then as 10spd gripshift is coming.

 

I do prefer alu cranks though, as I bash mine allot

seeing that you already made up your mind that you will be going gripshift, then you can only go Sram. 10spd X0 is out so you should probably go for that.

I would go Hope brakes and X0. Or that is what I have done on my Bulls 29'r. Everything is sweet as. Not as expensive as XX but I feel works perfect. I am not a fan of XTR at all.

If it is reliability, precision, performance and good looks you are after, get XTR 2 X 10. If you will settle for second best, get XO, otherwise fork out lots of cash and get XX.

Howzit - thinking of building myself up a Bulls 29er! what weight is your sitting at now? What frame exactly is it?
