Gerald missed one point with regards CSA doing something about the race fees. If we didn't have to pay a R30 CSA day license, the overall cost of the event would drop substantially. Why should CSA get money for races that they admit they have no part in?

I reckon Till is like Obama, he just does what he gets told to do.

We need to find out who really dictates to CSA.

There are a number of the especially smaller affiliates that are keen to go it alone i.e. without CSA, but they are concerned about the long term effect on cyclists in their provinces.

There is no doubt that individuals or organisations behind the scenes control things at CSA - methinks that was part of Mr Lemmer's frustrations; politics play a massive role and amongst other things, a transformation agenda is being vigorously pursued in order to access all important funding from Government & Lotto. As example look at the following document re. Youth Development Events

http://www.cyclingsa.com/App_Resources/Uploads/FILE00000445.pdf

where under Team composition, the following appears:

Type A category (Junior Men, Junior Women, U/16 Boys and U/16 Girls)

1. 6 male cyclists, which must have a team composition of 4 cyclists from one cultural background with an additional two from a different cultural background.

2. 2 female cyclists from any cultural background.

3. If the 4 male riders are predominantly white, then the PDI riders must be of colour.

4. If the 4 male riders are predominantly of colour, then the additional 2 cyclists should be white.

5. If teams do not have the above mix of riders they will be penalized with - 50 points. Effectively it means that this team cannot win the team competition.

6. Should affiliates be unable to field a team of the correct demographics, they may still compete, but will do so as incomplete teams, and will not be eligible for the team competition. They may compete in the inter-provincial competition, but will be penalized accordingly.

Makes interesting reading and the remainder of the document is filled with political catchphrases, buzzwords, double-speak, gobbledygook :P

Yeah, but a decent leader in Till's position would be able to navigate those waters and speak decently to us, the cyclists.

I don't know details, but from an outsider's point of view, Till appears to be a bit light on the management and admin skills needed to be in the hot seat.

And taking the "political pressure" approach is a cop out and the path of least resistance. We should be demanding more than this from all our leaders.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am merely taking the lead from the situation in Botswana.

The Botswana Cycling Association is recognised and empowered by the Botswana National Sports Council to represent cyclists in Botswana. The clubs and unions join the BCA and are thereby affilliated to BNSC.

When we join the UCI we will be entitled to compete or

qualify to compete internationally once we meet the requirements of the various international bodies.

Surely the same applies in RSA.You cannot "go it alone" so to speak. You have to fall within the structure

It is the clubs and unions etc who hold the power and the key.If they do not put their weight behind the CSA it will fall and you are back to square one.I would venture to say that is where your problem lies.

The clubs etc must get their own houses in order, vote in strong CSA committee members and police the whole process. That seems to be lacking

Spot on from what i can tell.

Additionallly SASCOC can only recognise one federation for each sport for that sport represent the country at the olympics.

Rather put your energy into fixing your club, then fix the provincal structure, then your federation if you feel that strongly about things.

Sport and politics go hand in hand!

cycling safety - i'm a bit confused about this. do you want the csa to address your safety when you train or do want them to ensure the safety of cyclists when they race?

the tosa was stopped on stage 2 by csa because the traffic authorities could not control the traffic.

csa officials made the call to scrap some events in the SA road champs because traffic officials could not control traffic.

traffic officials do not have a zero tolerance towards motorists who endanger all road users, how do you expect the csa to enforce road regulations when they have no jurisdiction over them.

i have raced in the WP and on a number of occasions our races have been called off because cyclists raced in an unsafe manner.

this is the team time trial , where the object is to ride fast - the above promotes riding as fast as the slowest rider. promoting mediocrity.

Cost of Insurance perhaps??? If it's like running then there is an insurance should you fall and injure yourself / get hit by a car etc.

Dangle, I know it is cool to trash stuff but get your facts straight.

The stage was stopped as a result of an unsafe condition due to cars on the road. The planning was ok, the sandton road users stuffed it up.
