A young dude shares his experience with a portion of the cycling community, probably to warn them of the dangers (and embarrassment) of riding a cheap, unbranded and untested carbon frame, like the ones often appearing in the classified section (some still unbranded and others sporting ridiculous names on the tubes), and what happens...he gets attacked and accussed of bringing the no-name-brand industry into disrepute. Ride what you want, but live with the consequences if you skimp on quality, cause no will tell me that the same effort and research goes into unbranded frames as top-end manufacturers do with their products.

Thanks I really appreciate it, one can see that you interpret what I'm saying the way I intended it to be interpreted, this is really what it was from the start in still suppose to be, so interpret it in your own way but don't bad mouth because you misunderstand it.

The look kind of grows on you. Like a tumour or something.

The piece where the seatpost enters is 15cm at the point where it snapped (will add picture with measuring tape if intrested), I use a EC90 seatpost with a 31.6 diamater which is the exact same as the frame, the most common minnimum insert for a seatpost (incliding mine) is 10 cm, so the break is a good 5cm under where even minimum insert should be,in this frame I used 36cm of the actual seatpost so there was a good 14cm in the frame an aboutt +- 1cm between where it broke, and for the last time I do not abuse frames or bikes

Dude. I suggest you use your tape measure again.

Oooh wait I see, sorry, I use 26cm of a 40cm seatpost leaving 14cm in the frame, not the measure tape but my maths

Right. So enough of the crap already.

Tell us how it really broke....we won't say a thing, don't worry. ;)

I reckon we need to give the chap the benefit of the doubt.

If he is being very honest, then there is issue of concern.

Hahaha what I say in my first post is really how it happened, I should really get my training partner a proHD camera because for some reason he is always behind me when I go down

Indeed.

If he is, there is.

Poorly laid up carbon is a big danger. It is razor sharp.

Even more concerning if it was a low speed incident, with the correct length seatpost.

So we either need to hear the full story, or the source of the frame. For the benefit of all.

Otherwise the rant is wasted.

Burry finished Illovo Eston with a snapped carbon bar worth about 4500.

Should he stop using carbon?

Or should he have been using a bar worth, well, say 8000?

Would a CHEAPER one maybe have been stronger?

Maybe try a steel bike then if you go down often ;)

I think it would have. The cheap ass ones are alu draped in a layer of carbon. Almost like a sticker. Weigh half bicycle, but they are strong.

My riding-partner bought a brand new scott spark ltd last year R70k or something, 2weeks before the pioneer. And on stage 3 he broke the frame really bad as well...i also think it depends on the fall/impact on the frame... btw, i just ordered my "aftermarket frame' this morning  , will let you know how it goes...
