yes we are well behind the game at the moment, but depending how much longer they bat/ or how long we take to bowl them out, we could avoid losing.

looking forward to faf putting up his hand in our second innings!

only two results realistically possible now

lead is over 400, and about 150 overs possible.

could wrap this up or they will maybe take it halfway into the 2nd session, by which time it will be 500+ off 130.

even if it has flattened to a road, unless QdK goes ballistic or Root has some bookies in karachi he owes money too we not chasing that down.

I watched a little bit yesterday. I heard the commentators saying how good Sibley is at playing spin and that he is a master at it and any young cricketer wanting to learn how to play spin must watch him. Then not long after this they put up our bowlers stats and Maharaj has bowled almost half the overs of all our bowlers. Now I am no cricket coach and my cricket experience stops at school boy 1st team but why bowl so much spin if the batsman thrives off it?

It's possible that we could possibly hold out for 4 sessions.... But if they declare soon after lunch I can't see us lasting 5. I would say 80% chance of Eng win 19.99% chance of draw and 0.01% chance of SA win

No chance

They will clean us up before lunch tomorrow

I love this guys commentary

Maharaj to Broad, FOUR runs, another urgent flurry of limbs, as Broad stoops with the gangly dissonance of a giraffe at a watering hole, and slaps firmly behind square

Firstly, you have to take the commentary from whence it comes: when the poms are on top, they are excellent at whatever they touch according to their pundits. But when they are struggling, they are crap at everything. Specially Nasser the Beak, he is so quick to change his position. Athers not far behind wining when they lose but praising their every move when they are on top.

Second, our bowling yesterday was average at best. VDP apparently woke up feeling ill, and tbh he can only ever really bowl with the new ball, he doesnt sommer bowl after the 20th over. I feel we lacked the proper game plan with Maharaj. bowling into that ruff outside the righthanders leg stump, you need to give him a leg slip and or leg gully, and plug the offside field. that is a tactic used extensively by the Indian spinners, and it works. our seemers also failed to bowl a consistent line and length, possibly due to uncertainty wrt whatever Faf's gameplan was. KG looked flat for most of the day, Nortje tried hard but lacked the backup from the other end. Pretorius had an off day, which is going to happen, he is still young.

Thirdly, with the game situation being what it was after we got bowled out, by tea yesterday it should have been obvious that we will have to rethink our tactics. In my view we should have started to throttle the poms, give them no runs, play boring cricket by bowling maiden after maiden after maiden. This does 2 things, it makes it more difficult for them to accelerate their innings allowing them more time to bowl at us in the 4th innings, and it also keeps us in the game because they are not running away with it which is what we saw happen last night and this morning. this tactic could frustrate them into making mistakes as they are clearly very keen to win this test match because they are trailing 1-0 in the series.

So I don't know, sometimes I wonder how the seemingly obvious goes amiss like that, even with all the experts and legends now in charge. possibly it doesn't go amiss and it is just down to poor execution??? or maybe its just me...

yep, our batting line up is as solid as willie le roux under the high ball

Watching on Saturday was so frustrating to watch.... For 4 we had our ourselves in a firm position to take a fist innings lead and then we just crumpled. Remember the days when we used to bat all the way up to 9 or 10 with Pollock coming in at 8 or 9 capable of scoring a century. In fact..I just googled.. He scored 2 at number 9
