What is considered a "light" road bike in both carbon and ally.. what is average and what is considered too heavy..? any thoughts on this?

or maybe i should be asking is 8.4kg too heavy for an ally bike?

Mines 8.2kg with a powermeter, garmin cadence sensor, saddle bag and a crappy super heavy junior cassete on.

With the racing setup - non junior it weighs 7.5 I think.

Depends how serious you are, My 1st bike weighed 10.5kg's stock for a small.

But it made me faster.

Doesn't matter what your bike weighs if you have a few extra kilos around the waist... happens to be my problem even if I have a super light bike :(

Spot on.

Forget about overall bike weight, that is only used by manufacturers to fleece the foolish.

Reduce rotational weight as much as possible, and cut as many kilos off the rider as possible. Much easier, not to mention cheaper.

Use psychology. Ride a good old farmgate. If you do badly in a race, you can blame the bike; if you do well, you can say it's despite the bike.

Ja-ja, but you can have a light bike AND loose the kilos around the waist.
