Is Jellomat the dressing you are referring to? have found this ,with a bandage wrapped around, to work well when sleeping...stops all the sticking to sheets etc.

Im not sure. You do get a normal parafin gauze that you might be refering to. The one I am refering to has Betadine added already. I use to use Germoline as well but that keeps the sores moist. Its good though to use afterwards once its dried out for removing marks unless you want battle scars for the look. Will leave that for the mtbers.

Bactroban ointment

Bactroban is really good used with tegaderm dressings. its actually indicated though if you have a secondary infection in your wounds. Inadine that I refered to earlier is really good at drying out the wounds. For the tough guys you can use Friars Balsam spray after cleaning. Be warned though just like Monster Energy drinks its made by the Devil so it burns like hell.

For roasties, I've had best results with granuflex dressing after the wound was cleaned. I think the generic one is called op-site or something like that.

Best to let a doctor check it out, imo.

Seems like there are many ways to skin this cat.two main schools of thought, dry it out for the traditionalist or keep it moist.any health care professionals want to add their advice on these divergent methods?

When I get hurt, I wash everything out with water to get rid of the grit and sand, wipe it down with diluted disinfectant and leave it to dry. If the wounds are seeping by the time I go to bed then I wrap them with some paraffin soaked gauze and bandage them up to prevent everything from getting stuck to the bedding. I learnt the hard way when it comes to using the paraffin soaked gauze, because the first time I fell I didn't use it; I just used some normal gauze and bandage. Next morning I woke up and the bandages had stuck to the wounds. Fortunately they came off after soaking in warm water, so I didn't have to rip them off and open the wounds again. As soon as it stops seeping I stop using the bandages and just let it scar over. It does leave permanent scars, but I don't care about those.

Clean it properly and apply a good anti-septic cream and then cover with a (i forget the correct name) clear plastic wound cover like a second skin. The pharmacy will know what to give you. Once on you just leave in place for about a week. My son was covered in roasties after he fell on the track last year, treated him this way and he was fine, hardly even a scar to be seen.

It will look ugly during the healing process but will feel a lot better than letting it dry out and form a scab. If the cover comes off before the wound has healed just clean and repeat the process.

what happens when roasties gets oozy under special plaster. ?

It is suppose to get oozy...that means it stays 'wet' and hence skin don't dry out and form hard (brown) scab and then skin heals from inside outwards and hence less (to no) scarring...

Depends on if the oozing is infection related or not.

Disinfect it a lot as a precaution.

If the surrounding skin is hot and if you have swollen lymph nodes in the area then head immediately to your doctor.

I used this when I played rugby.Best to use as soon after the injury as possible but can use a day or 2 later. Seals up quick, dries out quick and heals quick. NOTE THE FIRE SYMBOL IS THERE FOR A REASON. YOU WILL USE SOME CHOICE WORDS ONCE SPRAYED ON FOR THE FIRST 30 SECONDS.

I've always used polysporin salve and just let the thing dry out and heal.

Why is keeping it moist a better option?

I had successfull, pain free roastie treatment, using comfeel plus plaster.

Basically, my wounds were cleaned (read scrubbed with 3m dishwashing scrubber pad) in surgery.

The wounds were then treated with anti-bacterial (kinda like bactroban) and dressed with the comfeel plus plasters.

the plasters stayed on, for basically 3 weeks. you can shower with them, as they are completely waterproof.

Now this is where the shaving of legs come in.... (roasties were on my arms) it was painful removing the plasters, but only due to the fact that I had hair, and was basically being waxed, slowly....

as for the actual roasties, it was easy, pain and hassle free (do I sound like a verimark ad?)
