He qoutes the Elite at R18600 and the Pro at R26000. I'll just go and check again this afternoon...

A friend of mine is looking to get into MTB'ing and has +/- R25k to spend. He is a strong road rider currently.

What do you guys suggest?

Scott, Merida, Cannondale, Giant, or something else? Hardtail

Lets hear it!

Go for a Giant and keep some cash back for lighter wheels (5k for crests and hope II evo) - I started riding 29ers last April. Wheels matter bigtime (and hubs) as do tires (go 2.25 min 2.35 pref and mess around with pressure- low is best) oh yeah and SLX min as these are bullet proof Edited by ramsew

Momsen warrentee is only 3 years Merida is 5. Then you also get better value with the Merida. Momsen frame weight 1.3kg, Merida 1.1kg. Merida got the flex stays and carbon seatpost and some serious racing pedigree.

Plus, you can add carbon wheels.

and before you all say it or think it.

It was developed in SA with a few bike companies in order to make a bike capable of withstanding the harsh SA terrain.

Scott Scale 29 Expert (abt 22k and then he can upgrade some components) or the Pro (29k if he can stretch his budget)

Hi Jacquers---what upgrades will you recommend on this bike ?
