the resurgence in the Boxing Day event has a lot to do with the success of the local Paarl riders in the 25 miler. you must remember in the "old days" blacks were not allowed to ride or run in the Boxing Day events (the event was a cycling and athletics meeting). when gov allowed mixed sport in the late 70's , most of the black riders left the Sacos cycling body and joined the establishment but it was only recently that Garth Thomas became the first black cyclist to win the 25 miler.

Was a wicked day's racing. The atmosphere was palpable and the only thing that eclipses it slightly was Good Friday at Herne Hill in south London a couple of years ago but that's to be expected with world track champions, Mr Wiggins Mr McGee and Mr O Grady in attendance.

Was really nice to chat to Fire again after not recognising her in her Bellville Cycles skin-suit EmbarrassedShockedWinkTongueThumbs%20UpLOL

Fortunately my endurance made up for my massive lack of speed but I was disappointed not to make the split in the 25 miler.

Great days racing run well ahead of schedule, definitely see me back there next year Thumbs%20Up
