PPA cut cord with CSA

Recommended Posts

SASCOC have given CSA until the end of February to comply, or they will put them into administration and do it for them... so it appears to be a SE-RI-US (serious) matter.

However, to get the structures into place won't happen overnight, but the commitment needs to be there. Hopefully this will also signal the end to the RACETEC/ARGUS/CYCLE TOUR TRUST monopoly too.

having no understanding on the political workings of cycling, why do you want the monopoly to end ? Is it such a bad thing ?

I agree, lots of rhetoric but no real reasons other than "We want it like THIS".

I agree with PPA being 'just a club' as they do seem a bit like the tail wagging the dog.

Anyway, condensing 20% the population into 11% representation does not seem fair (and our gauvamint screams fair & representation at every opportunity - although shouting is all that happens).

The only way to make this 'fair' is if performance based qualifying criteria are set and provinces may send ALL cyclists who qualify to attend the next level up. (I assume here that cycling will have to fall in line with other sporting bodies where you have to qualify to participate at national champs)

Question if so... Will all cyclists from a province (GP) who qualify for nationals be granted provincial colours?

SASCOC has told cycling SA that it has to fall in line with all of the other sports or be put under there control.

Oh and 'falling in line with other sports' does not cut it either....

Triathlon SA is split GP North / South

Athletics (Track/Road) is split GP North / South

I'm sure there are other as well...

It seems to me as if the PPA has always been better at just about anything (yes, I know we all love to complain about them) that they did than CSA. I don't see how this is going to benefit cyclists in general. It feels like meddling and power struggles that does not have the average cyclists interests at heart.

Smart guys in the know, explain how this is going to be good for me, please.

PPA is a club and they were accommodated and they tried to accommodate CSA. But PPA works, organizes races, does seeding etc. and males money. So what they will probly go the rout of AMA rider. Do thier own thing and allow CSA to sanction a few of their races, but for the rest........

They will give the riders the option (remember a while ago, you were threatened with sanction if you as a CSA rider rode a PPA event)

PPA is not a club but social organization. They do not organise race only facilitate it.

Yes, there should be one seeding system used for all races countrywide, using all "registered" timing chip companies, and not restricted to just one, like it currently is for certain races. It's an abuse of "market share" and is not good for competition.

This is the responsibility of CSA and not the race organiser, hence my reason for saying that I hope this will see the end of the so-called monopoly. At the end of the day, let organisers choose who they want to use for timing, without being "penalised" by being excluded from seeding at other races.

+1

At the same time PPA can this nonsense that you have to be a PPA member to see your time online. After all the races are theirs they merely facilitate.

 Will be fantastic to have some transparency around the funds generated by the Argus.

some truths and some misconceptions here ppl:

Sascoc forced CSA to take on a 9 Provincial body structure, and decided this without consulting all bodies like the PPA, essentially forcing them out.

SASCOC and CSA have 1 goal: Racing and the development of cyclists to attend the Olympics.

The PPA has 1 main goal, the safety and awareness of safety for all riders, and they do NOT organise funrides except for their own tour De PPA. They Facilitate the organisation thereof and provide timing for their member via racetec. Marshalling and toilets or lack therof is done by the organiser (like Cycle lab for the Cobra) PPA provide signage and boards to use for the event and entry systems for members etc.

PPA used to subsidise (yes pay a portion) of your CSA license fee, and charge you the member less. That R35 was a miniscule amount compared to what CSA wanted. By belonging to CSA and SASCOC the PPA was effectively being milked by them for 1mil per year. Now they can save this and use it for development of cycling and safe cycling campaigns like the one they just launched.

Everyone knows that CSA is in deep **** and needed the PPA cash cow to come along for the ride so that they could keep their funding coming in, but the threat was that the government involvement could jeopardise the health and running of the PPA and effectively damage the principles they exist for and way they run things.

The PPA organisation is probably the most liquid body in cycling and the model they run, has been offered by the PPA to all other bodies in jhb and up country, but they always knew better.

The Argus/racetec collaboration is a monopoly, but a very valid one. is CSA got hold of it what would it look like? The proceeds from this help tons of charities and fund your saftey and awarness the PPA is constantly working on.

The PPA had a choice to join the WPCA and effectively be overtaken by them or leave CSA and let them to do what it wants with racing and let the PPA do what it does best for it's members.

Time will tell where this all goes, but the Feb deadline and new constitution is flawed and even so their deadline left no time for PPA to go to an AGM to vote. So there wasn't much choice, that is CSA and SASCOC's own fault. they lost their meal ticket.

As a member you are entitled to see the financial report available at the AGM - if the members ever actually went you would see. Of the 20 000 members I think there were less than 100 at the last one.

The truth is the Argus makes a great deal of money that is used throughout the year on safety campaigns, charities or banked. It does not get shared amongst directors for donuts everyday like everyone thinks.

It is funny that CSA nearly went bankrupt and now they want to take over PPA because PPA makes millions from good organising....

Maybe they must get rid of all members of CSA and let PPA become WPCA, then all the provinces must vote new members for CSA and they must make sure that CSA do their job properly.....
