This arrived today - It was a bargain but needs bit more work than I'd hoped - given it a half decent polish and it's acceptable but that is not what I'm going for here - so it's going for touch ups or possibly a complete respray - the saddle was an unexpected surprise as was the period correct stem and handlebars.  I can't get the cranks off which made me reach for a hammer but then I thought  better of that idea

Morph, this is such a stunning way to show how a 20 year old C40 can be built to run with the latest batch of bikes.

Won't you please add the details of the groupset and parts. I see Campy Super Record el electrickery.......but what else go into getting it that light, besides for the lighter than air wheels?

I'm open to suggestions on getting this chrome blinged up - this is a before shot, I've polished it better but I'd like to get it as shiny as possible

Burnishing with tin foil is usually the best thing you can do other than strip and re-chrome, which is not a very feasible option.

Don't use the hammer on anything other than the Shimano headset  :w00t:

What's the weight on the wheels? I got my C40 down to 7.2kgs with SR 11s and Old Eurus wheels that weight about 1550g for the pair excl tyres and skewers.

you joke, the hammer hit the crank  - I figured its scrap metal anyway being that its shimano

I have bike tools but I dont often tinker with my road bikes - can't remove the headset, can't get the crank off - now I have to get some extra tools - And I hate getting tools like I hate bikes

Just tinfoil dipped in ordinary water, but some say Diet Coke works better. Just rub-rub-rub and it will shine like magic. Once dry, protect it with a wax polish to prevent the rust from coming back, for a while anyway.
