Thanks everyone for the advice!

I finally make up my mind, mainly because I am getting the bike from the States (A friend is going on business trip)

Santa Cruz Tallboy 29er - I cant wait!

Should that not be Tallgirl? Very nice bike that...Was looking at one ealrier but settled on something more mainstream.

You don't say how tall you are....I ride 29er and is of average height but to disembark with the bigger wheels does feel for me somewhat more difficult.(Gonads and all)

I think I'm saying I don't think 29ers will work well on technical tracks (e.g. stopping at times) on short people.

Who's the shortest 29er hubber ?

I upgraded from 26er to 29er...I love it! I find it comfortable in technical sections as well, I prefer the wider handlebar and descents you can just go, rocks is like sand against it, overall I love the 29er...

I used to be a "29ers are better for tall people riding marathons - short(ish) people riding technical should stick to 26ers" kinda guy but all bets are off these days...

Kulhavy is ripping the xc field apart on his 29er duallie & Emily Batty loves her 29er and she is only 5'3":

No hard and fast rules anymore methinks!

One advantage that I saw in 29'ers was at Trans. On the first 140km road racing sections, the 29'ers were quite a bit faster. I'd be spinning my ass off and the 29'ers would roll on by. Because at the same gear ratio and cadence, the 29'er wheels cover a greater distance, hence, faster. Duh

Great choice! If it's red I assume it's an aluminium one?

I've been riding 29ers for about 5 years now and am a complete convert....for racing marathons. XC is a tough call - the world xc cup courses tend to be "manicured" with rock sections whereas the local xc courses tend to be bumpier and more technical - probably a 26er for those.

For fun I reckon a 26er is still lighter and more chuckable.

For beginners I'd say 29er - they instill more confidence and make rocky climbs easier to negotiate.

I'm loving having the extra choice - emotions and haters (of both 26er and 29er) be damned!

Yeah, afraid that I am on a budget and the Carbon is just way to much, but I am still happy, it's still light compared to what I am riding now :-)
