How on earth do you get to this, Epic existed before S2C and Transalp before The Epic.

jislaaaik... just thinking out the back of my head - i cant remember when all these things happened - so much so that you made go research - epic - 2004 and sani2c - 2005 - call me a liar for a year. was also only thinking of sa races - anyway - there was a question mark after that statement implying that i was likely wrong :D

I believe square wheels is the next big thing! if you wanna be hardcore, this is it..

If you make them triangular you will eliminate one bump.

( Thanks to a very old comic strip called BC)

Yes, the idea was to keep riders in pairs so that they could help one another in a crisis due to the length of the events.

OK cool, so its purely down to rider safety more then anything else. Now I ask the following, surely with all the coverage, support teams and the fact its pretty much ridden in loops in various areas as opposed to the way it used to be (ie start in Knysna finish in Cape Town) that this may no longer apply. As you stated,"it was the idea", so does this mean it doesn't really appy any longer. I would just be interested to know how the race would differ if it was an individual race.

29'ers are best because only clever rich people ride them. I've also heard that there is a direct correlation between wheel circumference and the size of your c0ck. This is why you find so many monster truck drivers moonlighting as porn stars. Apparently Assos are designing a new 29'er specific bib with extra sag built into the crotch area.

Thats very funny LL - methinks Mr Traut is a wee bit over sensitive - perhaps all those bucks on the Spesh 9er aren't making that much difference to his speed on the bike. Hows that for an assumption based on very little info?

Sauser and Stander would finish 1-2 in the GC.

guess it kind of stuck. Personally, its nice to have a partner to keep you company and assist if there is a technical - as opposed to being on your ace and having all these people whizzing by

There are other reasons as well

Cameraderie, adventure, support moral as well as physical, half the spares and tools carried, there are many reasons.

Plus people like doing it in teams.Share the experience etc

I agree on all of these. I was just wondering where the idea started as too having the team options. I would love to see a stage race of this magnitude that is both an individual and team effort.

There are some local team events that predate even Sani and Epic.

And they are?

Edit: I presume we are talking about mtb stage racing.

As far as I know Kevin Vermaak returned from La Ruta and four of them decided to hold a stage race in SA. Somewhere on the epic site is a link to milestones. Go give it a read.
