They still need to pay for their transport so its not completely free.

you had me at free sani entry...I would wash, lube and fix your bike...carry your black box...take some gopro footage of you descending into the valley and be general slave for three days...a free entry into race that is impossible to get into...nuff said

The question for me is more, "What do you do if work tells your partner that he can't take leave anymore?" How much of a temper tantrum are you allowed to throw?

Tell you partner his life is not worth it.... he should quit his job and ride rather than subject himself to the magnitute of the temper tantrum you are entitled to have!!!!! ;)

A couple of people interested, however all of them seem to be strong riders (sub 3:30 Argus's and the likes). I'm worried they will get annoyed. You have to ride together as they have checkpoints.

Nobody worries about checkpoints at Sani, least of all the organisers. Ride with someone strong and let them push you up all the hills on Day 2!

So, I put on some Racing Ralphs, They are nice fast and grippy but as fragile as my ego. How harse is the surface down to scotsborough, Ive had crossmarks on in a previous life. Tough as nails but a bit slower or maybe I was slow back then. I really dont want to spend an hour a day plugging and pumping. Any other suggetions. Yes they have to fit on my 29ers rims.

terrain pretty smoothe, not too many rocky sections

Are they UST?

I used my UST Racing ralphs last year and they were the dogs bollocks. I would not use a non UST tire for a stage race and on Grape escape the folding RR seemed to puncture the easiest.

If they're normal Racing Ralphs and not the Snakeskin Evo variety then I would be very wary of using them on Sani. I've punctured Crossmarks on that route before. Having said that Sani is a well manicured course and if you're in either the Adventure or Race then you have the added benefit of those riding the route the day before you, picking up all the thorns in their tyres :whistling: . But there are rocks that will slice a thin sidewall very quickly if you're careless when passing them. There's a reason you can buy the normal Racing Ralphs at 1/3 of the price of the Snakeskin versions.

Schwalbe Snakeskin tyres (Nobby Nic or Racing Ralph) are perfect for Sani.

How can we charge our go-pro cameras?

I only have a usb cable.

There's a dedicated place to charge phones, cameras, shavers, toothbrushes etc

Well thats is exactly what has just happened to me. I no longer have a partner! My dad can't afford to quit, not much chance of getting a new job as a white male over 60.

No temper tantrum, I'm just looking like a complete idiot crying at work!

That is ridiculous. As a "Boss" that is the exact type of person I want to have in my staff. Fit and active at the age of 60! Beast of luck finding a partner. If you battling - I know at least 1 local (kzn) lady who would happily join you and is also up to the right fitness level (but not a racing snake) as she has been training with us

edit: you wont miss us - as my partners santa cruz tallboy bling will stand out next to my 4 yr old 26" goose

Ratty, that's really shocking from your dad's employer. Sue them for damages I say. Of course that depends on his employment contract and conditions of leave. But no rational, emotionally intelligent boss/line manager would do that. I once had to give up an overseas trip and my cousin's wedding to try and conclude a deal. To this day, the deal hasn't happened, but I missed my cousin's wedding forever. And we're like brothers. Life's too short. It was one of the reasons I decided to quit corporate life and work for myself. Good on you for generously offering your dad's spot. I hope the two of you get to ride Sani together one day.

I have luckily managed to find a partner. Social media, forums and email are fantastic.

flymango, I told my work today that if they did that to me, they would have my resignation within an hour.

Stretch, not many people will employ someone who is already past retirement age, good on you for seeing that they still have something to give.

In an ideal world, yes. But with unemployment at its highest, and the older white male a dying breed in the work place, it's the harsh reality that work comes before play.

Ratty, don't wait another year to partner up with dad. Find a nice two, three day event in the very near future and enjoy that time with him. I'm sure for him it's about riding with you, doesn't matter what event it is.
