SwissVan Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Exactly. Mine was just an illustration for the swiss nay sayer. Noooooooo the nay sayers complain about how much epic costs, mine was just an illustration that Trans Provence is not neccesarily cheaper, even if you fly with Bulgarian via Sofia by the time you get to the start and take all your costs into a/c it wont cost less. But ja it looks like an awesome event and a great idea
rob! Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Following a cloud of dust with helicopters and quad bikes toting camera men all over the place is not my idea of mountain biking. Someone got hospitalised a year or two ago on after being run over by a maniac on a quad bike. Lots of other multi-day stage events out there offering much better value for money. The Freedom Challenge is where real mountain biking adventures happens IMHO . It's worth training up for that. If that's too big a bite, start with the Ride to Rhodes. Warning: there's no prize or instant glory to be had, just a deep personal sense of achievement. No I don't work for them, but have done both. Life changing experience, I promise you. Well, clearly you haven't done the epic. If your limited insight and expression here is the reason for you not doing the epic then you are just bullshitting yourselve. The freedom challenge aims at something completely different. Bot events are hard, you just gotta be prepared and up for it.
SwissVan Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Isn't an Epic entry 25k for next year? And the Trans Provence is in France. Not Italy. Bob said to fly to Turin (Italy) Epic is ZAR 39'800.00 per team, call it 20 K each
SwissVan Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Um:2013 Epic:Entry Fee: R39, 800 per team R25k(or less with the right flights - And that other oke's flights would have put it at R21,800) is in the ball park. R39800.00 divided by 2 = R19900.00Still less than 21800.00 (la la flight) or 25000.00 real time flight including bike
Hairy Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I always ask them if they are going to sponsor me .. they then say why and I get to quote crazy entry costs.....
rob! Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 R39800.00 divided by 2 = R19900.00Still less than 21800.00 (la la flight) or 25000.00 real time flight including bike Now you two are wasting your time.Jack - go and bite a bunny's ears off (or bum if you prefer)Bob: Have a beer
TNT1 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 R39800.00 divided by 2 = R19900.00Still less than 21800.00 (la la flight) or 25000.00 real time flight including bike For a couple of R1000, I would rather have luggage lost in Turin than in Lourensford (or wherever that Stauser benefit ride happens). Thanks anyway.
DG_Bike_Racks Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Any Epic is possible with money and time....

Loved it though.Have to give the guy a nod, to have done both. Excellent achievement! Trans Provence sounds similar to the Mega Avalanche ... Anyone?

Now THERE is a big-spender event I would love to do! (oneday when I'm big)
manbearpig Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 If I'm gonna take a week off work and spend that kind of ammo I'm gonna go fishing somewhere sweeeet!!
Danger Dassie Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Megavalanche... Now THERE is a big-spender event I would love to do! (oneday when I'm big) Hells yeah, Reunion Island!
Guest Omega Man Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) Trans Provence sounds similar to the Mega Avalanche ... Anyone? No. the Mega is a Mass start (400 people) downhill race. It's about 20km long (i think) and the main USP of the race is that you ride/ass slide across a glacier. Due to the number of entries there are multiple heats of 200 odd each to get the fastest 400 to do the actual mega. The Trans Provence is a multi day race. Hence the comparison to the Epic but that's where the similarities end. It's a enduro race where the emphasis is on single track gravity trails (Not full on DH) The participants are shuttled to the drop off points (usually the highest point of the days stage) and they race. That's it in a nutshell. Edited April 18, 2012 by Omega Man Danger Dassie 1
petatodd Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I never get asked "have you done the Epic?" more like "Are you doing the Epic again next year?" See, a guy will always tell you he's done the Epic, you don't have to ask!
