Exactly. Mine was just an illustration for the swiss nay sayer.

 

Noooooooo the nay sayers complain about how much epic costs, mine was just an illustration that Trans Provence is not neccesarily cheaper, even if you fly with Bulgarian via Sofia by the time you get to the start and take all your costs into a/c it wont cost less.

Following a cloud of dust with helicopters and quad bikes toting camera men all over the place is not my idea of mountain biking. Someone got hospitalised a year or two ago on after being run over by a maniac on a quad bike. Lots of other multi-day stage events out there offering much better value for money.

 

The Freedom Challenge is where real mountain biking adventures happens IMHO . It's worth training up for that. If that's too big a bite, start with the Ride to Rhodes. Warning: there's no prize or instant glory to be had, just a deep personal sense of achievement.

No. the Mega is a Mass start (400 people) downhill race. It's about 20km long (i think) and the main USP of the race is that you ride/ass slide across a glacier. Due to the number of entries there are multiple heats of 200 odd each to get the fastest 400 to do the actual mega.

 

The Trans Provence is a multi day race. Hence the comparison to the Epic but that's where the similarities end. It's a enduro race where the emphasis is on single track gravity trails (Not full on DH)

 

The participants are shuttled to the drop off points (usually the highest point of the days stage) and they race. That's it in a nutshell.
