Now you HAVE to buy a good grinder.... :)

I have never played with one of those - cool toy - once you master the temperature management, you should be good.

From what i read the temp issue is not so bad on the proffesional (like this one) but i will be looking into doing the PID mod on it... After i make a suitable base for it.

Firstly i cant wait to get it home and pull an espresso (it will probably taste awful) but i cant wait!!

I have a PID in my desk drawer if you want to have a go at it, but you will need a couple more bits I don't have spares of - there is a similar machine someone added a PID to on home-barista.com, and you should read that before going ahead..... but I don't think managing the temp of the water is the issue - managing the temp of the grouphead is more an issue in that it overheats after a couple of shots - wet cloth to cool it down apparently works... - luckily here at the reef, we have a built in notification of too hot - flash boil at 95 degrees...

I think the answer is to get a temperature strip for the head to see where you are - BUT without a decent grinder and fresh coffee, you are going nowhere taste wise - going to be a fun journey.

Yeah luckily its only myself who drinks coffee in my house, occasionally i will make for my Brother when he comes around so it will be one or two pulls max. So the head overheating "shouldnt" be an issue...

I have seen that PID build on HB and its awesome! But i have also read countless threads on these machines where perfect shots are pulled all the time so i guess it will be a play by play!

I have krups burr grinder currently which should be ok but if not i will be ordering a small hand grinder to do the job.

A friend of mine Craig has one of those toys, and he does not have a PID for it - and he has good success with it - although I think he is using a Mazzer Super Jolly as his grinder - and he is roasting for himself now, so fresh coffee is the rule.

http://www.orphanespresso.com/Group-Temperature-Strip-Thermometer-High-Range-and-Low_p_2133.html is the starting point before PID.

As to the Krups... Not really - but might be ok for low level use... :)

Good idea - let me know when you are ordering from them - I want some OE caffeinated espresso cups.

For sure, I will test the machine out and i may end up just ordering a seal kit etc for it, i suppose we will save a bit on shipping

You should be able to get a seal kit locally - LaPavoni bought Isomac about 18months ago, so Importalia (isomac importer) may have, as might the LaPavoni guys - Allesandro from Tazzadoro - I can always ping Craig - he will know - except he is near PMB.

I have been going nuts with my Simonelli grinder. I know you said new grinders take a while to settle but I was sure I was screwing up something. Tamping is what I thought. Then last week it suddenly became predictable. What a relief

I know the feeling, whenever I get new beans, I know I'm going to battle a bit. So I've rather been buying 1kg of the same beans at a time for now.
