Got a Jura Ena micro 9 for the office yesterday, still getting to grips with it, but beats the hell out of crap plunger coffee so far !

I have a FrancisFrancis X1 at home that needs some TLC, can anyone recommend a good place to send for repair ?

My wife sent to Illy agent ? who advised her it not worth repairing  despite the fact it works, just takes a while to froth the milk, which is why I asked her to get it looked at.

Probably only needs to be descaled - you can do that yourself - google it, you will probably find out how to do it.

Still working on the art, but getting closer!

Latte art is an evil thing. I watched the barista at my local coffee shop doing his thing and told him that he was pissing me off because he was making it look so easy. His response was to keep pouring. They pour like 100 cups a day and doing the heart, leaf etc is a piece of piss to them. Could do it in their sleep.

Practice practice practice.

Looking good though!!

I hear you! In principle it is actually very simple but putting all the steps together correctly ain't so easy...

Do watch the Verve Coffee Roasters milk steaming and latte art videos, they have really helped me.

Also Scott Rao's tutorial on steaming and pouring.

I have found the correct placement of the jug and amount of milk in the pitcher for my machine, so foam is OK.

A tip from me is use a smaller cup, and put the jug with its spout on the edge of the cup and tilt to pour. Easier to control the speed of the pour and with the small cup you can basically tilt it down and pour fast so the heart starts forming immediately, once it starts showing up on the crema move forward slightly, keep the flow and then when its full lift and pour through to split the heart. With a bigger cup you have to first fill and then drop down to do the art which is another step to bugger up. With the small cup you just pour full gass from the start. Maybe not the correct way but give it a try. Works for me. As for the wiggle to do a rosetta - I'll worry about that when I can do a nice heart consistently

The shape of the cup is also important. A round cup pours better than a square cup (In cross section of course...) I got a heart right once but the foam was wrong. I almost got the micro foam consistently right but I have one of those plastic nozzles on my Delonghi which is supposed to help you get good foam. It does a great job at that but micro foam is a WHOLE different ballgame...!!

To the coffee neanderthals, if it has foam on the top, it's a cappuccino...

Does anybody know where to get reusable metal filters for an Aeropress locally?

Have you tried Phumlani at Stil?

Oh, okay sorry KZN. didn't see that. I am coming down to MooiRiver end of the month if you find one in JHB and want me to bring it that far?

You are supposed to drink out of a cup - not pour... that's what jugs are for.. :) I used to think the shape made a difference - I am not so sure any more - practice definitely helps.

Of course if it has foam on top it is a Macchiato - or a Café Cortado,,, or... F.. it - drink espresso - much easier.. :)

There's alway one.... ^_^ What I meant to say was it is easier to pour into a round cup than a square cup... :P

I can't pull proper espresso shots yet so I hide my mistakes with milk and sugar. When I am feeling generous and energetic, I will give the cappuccinos a go.
