is it really worthwhile getting a policy for something that costs R8000?

Yes. Two of my bikes are under R10k a piece, bundled with the household contents cover, and specified as all risk items, they are less than R100 each a month. I'll take the peace of mind for that price any day.

Horse, stable door, bolt ... but maybe I must cover the others. Hmmm, an extra R300+ in premiums.

(I want a device that slips into the seatpost. Via a cellphone, it detonates and shoots the ****** about a mile into the sky. Like sitting on a mortar.)

Driving home towards Northern Suburbs on Saturday afternoon, at about 3:30.

Just as you go past the bridge to lower woodstock there is a field of grass and a few palm trees.

I had a quick glance out the window and saw a road bike updise down while the guys were doing there thing.

Looked similar to yours but was travelling at 80kmh.

Will have a look there on my way home but there isnt anywhere to pull over if i do see anything.

Good lead, thanks Nobody. I'll go check it out. That's the one on the N1 at Lower Church Street? I'm driving around the area like a blue-arsed fly at all times of day.

really really really sad. We also have a business in sir lowry road. For the last few weeks things have really gotten out of hand, afew shops were held up, OnQ was broken into, a few people were mugged. However CID does not patrol from buitengracht to about gimpie street. Not sure what the reason is but after gimpie street somewhere you will find CID. So anyone in this area be very careful. Also dont count on that 26 unless you offered him that R1000 reward as well. Maybe put some colour pics on almost all the poles with the reward. Hopefully Someone will get pissed with the dude that has your bike and want the money instead

HERE"S THE UPDATE: I got a call from Cash Converters this morning (I'd emailed them Saturday night), and there she was! Wheels flat, the front one on backwards, the toe straps strangely muddled, one Lenzyne pump absolutely in sy moer, and a few saddle scrapes - but otherwise intact and in order as far as I could see in the short time I had before dropping her off at home.

Thanks all Hubbers for your support! Much appreciated.

Glad you got it back!

Did Cash Converters hand over money for it?

Well, there's a kinda muddy moral water here. They bought it from the tik-kop either on Saturday or yesterday and I'd offered a R1000 reward for it. So I guess that covered their outlay. Mr Tik-kop must be kicking himself though, because I doubt he got more than R300 for it. (I should be seriously annoyed, 'cos the Converters sticker said R1450.00 as a sale price. But maybe that just proves that they don't know bikes.)

You gotta muddy the waters sometimes.

Agree on the knowledge of bikes. I have seen some howlers on sale there.

Yo Le Turbo

Congrats on your lovely ride returning home!

  1. Report that police station for bloody stupidity with Aunty Helen or someone who will listen
  2. Cash Converters are legally obliged to have the ID and details of the person selling the goods on hand .... the guy who stole it needs to be apprehended before he attempts further theft
  3. What I do if I am standing around and chatting around my bike (AKA coffee type stop) is click the shifters down a few ratios without pedaling .... if someone jumps on and tries to ride away in a hurry they will be slowed down or hit the road rather hard. Hopefully in time for me to stand on their head.

Now go ride her again :)
