I for one can never understand certain roadies who insist to ride next to each other on a road with hardly any shoulder. I mean, I get so crap nervous riding anywhere near any part of the road that taxis and trucks use that I can't fathom why they would just sit there in utter "ignorance" two abreast. As far as the rest of this idiot's comments go, I really think he is sitting in some little room somewhere with nothing better to do than post utter rubbish on the net!!!

I have been thinking of arming myself in various ways for a while now considering all the bike jacking and idiots on the roads these days. When you read the comments to that article I get very worried.

How ridiculous, just so you can sit and have a conversation with your buddy you are willing to risk not only your life but whatever aggravation to motorists ?? This is exactly why people think we are selfish idiots not deserving to be on the roads.

In fact, it has been advocated that you should do exactly that, for the reason I've highlighted in your post. If my hazy memory serves me correctly, the editor of Ride did so a couple of years ago. THe theory is that it gives you a greater "presence" on the road, stopping traffic to try and squeeze past, where there is no squeezing to do. Same principle led to the advice of keeping a meter or so between you and the kerb --> gives you room to maneuver when the squeezing starts...
