Hey all

So I had my first MTB race at the Sondela MTB Challenge on Sunday.

Great ride, great vibe, great organizing, over all great from their side....

And then there was ME.

I start around the middle of the field and things go smooth, then we hit that sand section (the route description said "some sand" they should have said "cross the Sahara"). I get through that and think to myself, time to make up some lost time.

Enter km 26

Puncture!!! No worries i have a spare tube, get that on, get on the way again.

Enter km 41

2 Punctures (front and back, at the same time) and NO spare.

I have heard that walking is a part of MTB'ing, but not this much

So, heres where YOU come in

Suggestions on where to go from here, Tubeless, Slime?

Please Help

O ja, and let one of you say "stay on the path and out of the bushes" !!!

Before I went the tubeless route I always carried a spare tube AND a puncture repair kit.

Depending on what caused your punctures at the 41km mark, you would have been able to fix them with a puncture repair kit and save yourself a lot of walking.

If you dont feel like going tubeless use some tyre liners and thorn proof tubes from Sportsmans, I have had no punctures since....

But you should carry a puncture kit, CO2 inflator AND a pump, Murphy and Sods law states a second puncture will occur if you only have one tube....!

You can also make use of scab puncture patches, no need to wait for glue to dry. Can perform a better repair once you are safely home.

Sondela is a puncture haven with all the thorn trees they have there. Went there once with normal tyres on the kids bikes and spent most of the days fixing punctures. Last time we went not one of us had a puncture as I decided to put tyre liners and run slime tubes on the kids and moms bikes.

Mine I converted to tubeless a year or two ago and (touch wood) haven't had a flat yet.

ah same happened to me this weekend. I think I would also like to convert to tubeless.

So let me get this right.

Tubeless, Slime and CO2 = no walking.

until the slime has ammonia in and it starts to de-laminate your tyres when you pick up a puncture, or you top up with a bomb and it turns the slimes in little balls of snot..

NOTE: Never experienced any of this first-hand, but then I've only done around 100km(I guess!) on my two toobliss'd bikes
