If its a social ride, no probs, lets stop and sort your issue out, done it plenty times at VG, Northerns etc etc. If its a race however it should be part of what you carry, won't stop sorry....nothing like a 5 km hike to help you remember for next time

I'm not surprised that people lack the basic skill required to do running repairs. Most events cater for the masses and where very little technical skill is required, you'll find that everyone who owns a bike with (sometimes without) suspension enters.

My wife has also been riding for about 3 years, but still can't do a tube change or mend a chain, as I am usually close by to do this for her. I do however make sure that she carries everything that she may need with her. As she rides the short and middle routes, the worst case scenario is a bit of a wait and then the sweeper picks her up (she's not particularly fast, so the wait is not that long).

She loves being able to ride her bike and not having to be a bike mechanic to do that.

Maybe it was scam, check if she arrived at the event in a white Pajero. Call JB for backup, he's fond of applying the odd PK

Hehe, didn't see a petrol can and AA card

My poppie knows how to fix a puncture and plenty more! I have an attitude with the bike (and my 4x4) that if you want to ride it (or drive it!), you better know how to fix it as I am not always going to be around. And if you cant fix it at least have the gear and spares so someone else may be able to assist you.

But there's satisfaction in fixing your own puncture/chain and passing the very same guys who did not even bother to ask if you need help as they came past. Edited by Fester

I would stop under almost all circumstances, except maybe if she was on a 29er, Spez or Cannondale, in which case I'd make some sort of sny, sexist or inappropriate comment while passing....

You've just mentioned 98% of the Mtb community, In which case you're a tool.. :whistling:

I can't se the big deal here. I know a guy who has ridden every epic and can't change a tyre, never mind fix a chain.....

Seriously, what self respecting man doesn't know how to change a tyre?

So not only has he done every Epic but also been the first gay man to do every epic.

Hi All,

Was wondering how someone can ride a race, without been able to change a tube during race.

I was doing a race a couple of weeks ago, Bela-Bela, just after halfway a young lady standing on the side with a puncture.

No One stopped, I stopped and lost a couple of minutes.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think changing a tube is a basic knowlege that is needed if riding alone as she was.

Regards,

That is the only way to meet new men. Also, at least I can differentiate between the true gentle souls who cares about women and the rest... lol

Your hopes might be shattered, maybe post about them in the "fears" thread... double  this time.
