Due to current exchange rate about R 200 per 100ml bottle.

Wet and or Dry lube available.

What is the motivation for the very high price?

How could it possibly cost R2000 a liter for chain lube?

Just cleaned the chain, dried it and lubed with Mobil1 10W60 fully synth that I have left over. In fact, I have so much leftover oil in various containers in the garage that it would last me150 years.

I really enjoy this thread, coming from a motorcycling background and having serviced a lot of my own bikes.

I believe that these hideously expensive small bottles of "bicycle lube" is borderline criminal.

Ha ha.

I recently drained the diffs, gearbox and transfer case of my plaasbakkie. I now have 10 litres of 80w90 to use. Luckily I can use this in the chainsaw as well.

You, my friend, are in the pound seats!

I don't wish to start a lube debate but are there any new chain lube's which are worth trying. I ride in try dusty areas. I clean my bike after every ride and give the chain a good wipe down and re lube.

I've been served well by Clean Ride, the old white Lightning which has a wax base.No chain suck, dropped chains etc. and its clean. I noticed recently there was a wax build up and despite all the efforts with a degreaser the wax was stubborn and never came off and started the long ardious process of using a tooth pick and eventually got all the wax off.

Would the Epic Ride be a better proposition or are there any suggestions?

Thanks.

Purple Extreme - no question.

Just struggle to find stockists of this...

thanks, I presume its the same application procces of "a drop" per link, wating a few minutes to allow access and wiping off the excess. do you get any grime build up?

I question that, since I cant image that anything could be better than Rock n Roll extreme, and I have tried many lubes. In a scientific test for bicycle drivetrains the non-extreme/dry/roadbike version Rock n Roll Gold completely ran away with the victory from many other lubes tested.

I have been majorily impressed with Smoove lube... Key is to apply night before ride... handles both dry and wet conditions well

In my experience Smoove build up a lot of gunk at the rear derailleur - and I do wash my bike regularly and apply the evening before.

"Gunk" build up I have noted but not substantially - like I said if you apply the night before and wipe off excess/dont over apply... no problems

I used Smoove lube and did all of the above. I wash my bike religiously, cleaning the drive train with prepsol etc. Thing is that degreasers don't dissolve Smoove. After a while it looked like my cluster and top derailleur wheel were baking mud cakes.

I'm back to using my leftover Finish Line Wet lube, but I think after this it's on to the world of motorcycle dry lube and home made wet lube concoctions for me.
